Junior American Citizens Club (Virtual)
We will be offering the students at FIS the opportunity to be a part of the Virtual Junior American Citizens Club (JAC). The JAC club is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, Emory Road Chapter. The purpose of the club is to promote citizenship and patriotic education by learning history and love of country.
Tech Tips!
We hope you found our last Tech Tip helpful! This week, we will focus again on a Canvas tip, with a little Kami thrown in, since these are the main programs students are using.
Tip: Typing in assignments and discussion posts
If you are typing in a long assignment or discussion post, always type it in a google doc or notepad. Then, copy that text and paste it into the submission text box in Canvas. This will ensure that you don't lose your work due to a network connectivity issue.
Internet connection issues will happen, it is just a matter of when they will happen. If you are using Kami, please note that you can use Kami in an offline mode. Make sure you have chosen and opened your PDF document when you are connected to the internet. Keep the Kami tab open on your device (this will mean that any changes that you make will automatically save when you come back online. If you close for any reason — it’s ok. You can get back your document by clicking the extension icon or by going to https://web.kamihq.com and choosing your file from the recents list.) Next, edit and annotate your Kami file using any of the Kami tools and comment features. Finally, reconnect to the internet. Click the save button in the upper-right corner or wait for your work to automatically sync to Kami.
Hot off the press (or internet)! FIS has recently purchased Nearpod for teachers to use with students. Nearpod is the go-to tool for interactive presentations and assessments, that are highly engaging for students. Teachers can upload videos, images, audio clips, and PDF files as well as embed multiple-choice quizzes and polls. With Nearpod, teachers interact with students and view student responses in real-time.

Free Breakfast and Lunch for All
KCS has opted to take advantage of this flexibility, and it will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for all students. The program will end no later than Dec. 31, 2020, and could end sooner depending on federal funding.
Given the temporary nature of this program, we will continue accepting free and reduced-price meal applications. Click here for information on Free and Reduces Application. Students who previously used a PIN or scan card will continue to do so, and students in the virtual learning program must still register for meal pickup from their base school. Virtual students can register at www.knoxschools.org/mealsrequest.

A Message from Our Counselors
You should have received an email including a form re: Family Needs from Jelena Browning, our Farragut Schools Social Worker. This form is required for all families. If you have multiple students, you may have gotten multiple emails. You only need to fill out the form once as a family and include ALL students under student name(s). Make sure to include their last names on this form. If you did not receive the email, you can access the form through this link.
