Miss Vaughn's Class
Week of February 1-5
Reading- We are working on pulling fiction out of non fiction books! This is how we can look for facts in a made up story! For example in the book "Fox, Beware" we can see that a fox really does live in a den but the story tells us he talks and they do not do that in real life. We are next going to be working on writing down our feelings while we read our books. This is called a "stop and jot"! You'll see them in the books your child brings home!
Math- We are changing up our math workshop a bit and will be rotating through our stations (teacher time, math journal, games, and technology) with Mrs. Martin's class. We as teachers looked at what was best for our math groups and this is it! We will be starting this on February 8. The lessons and homework will remain the same, just refreshing the way we are teaching!
Writing- We are SO EXCITED to be writing reviews in 1st grade. The collection of 3-5 similar items should be brought in on Monday. A note was sent home today (1/28). In this unit we will focus on stating our opinion and then supporting in with reasons!
Science/Social Studies- We are moving into a unit all about the history of American in Social Studies and we will learn all about President Lincoln and Washington in the month of February. In Science, we are learning all about eating the right foods and trying different foods in our diets!
Our field trip is on Wednesday February 3! We are super excited to visit SLU and see a real basketball game and learn all about the way the athletes use leadership to help them succeed! PLEASE turn in the permission slip and $3.00 CASH by January 29. Lunch is provided by SLU for all students!
