Beck Weekly Update
Parent Info for Friday, September 30, 2022
Beck Centennial Elementary
Happy Friday, Sept. 30!
We have September securely in the books already! Wow, the first month of school always goes so fast! Today also marks the "half-way" point in the first marking period. Parents should look on PowerSchool to see their child's mid-marking "Progress Reports!"
The students and staff have covered a lot of ground already in our school year! School pictures have been taken, the beginning NWEA tests are being analyzed to determine how teachers will approach their students, and we finally have most of the school processes down now! The school year is off to a great start!
This month our Beck Family Volunteers have many great events planned. These events benefit our school, but also help to bring our 'school community' together! The Fun Run is the major source of funding for the school year. All of their plans are based on the outcome of this event. If the goal is met, all students will be able to participate in a "Bounce Extravaganza!" - three bounce houses to enjoy with their classmates. Classes who meet their goal ($1,000) will also participate in a "Snow Cone" party! There is one week remaining before our Fun Run!
Also, later in the month, the "Trunk or Treat" event is planned. Trunk or Treat is a fun evening of Halloween themed competition (trunks, costumes and pumpkin decorating), and plain 'ol good times with friends! Parents decorate their trunks, pass out candy to participants, and students get to spend relaxed time with friends and show off their Halloween costumes. Please watch for guidelines on Halloween costumes and our school parade schedule later next week.
Lastly, I wanted to call your attention to a new partnership between Utica Community Schools and Celebrate Hope! UCS, with the help of folks from Celebrate Hope, will be presenting a series of virtual informational programs focused on you and your family and your emotional health. The first event is Wed., Oct. 19. The topic is "Acceptance." See the flyer below for more information.
Enjoy your weekend!

UCS Elementary Handbook
One of the most popular questions involves cell phones for students. Elementary students are asked not to bring cell phones to school. They are not needed, and use of other technology is provided to students as needed for school work while at school. Due to circumstances at home, however, with family schedules, it may be necessary for a student to need to bring their phone to school. IF a parent would like their child to carry their cell phone to school please follow these two guidelines:
- A note from parent requesting student bring their phone (so we know you approved), and
- Student parks phone in teacher's cupboard, or our office 'cell phone parking lot'
