Rose Lane Principal Letter...
What an amazing month we've had! I'm so proud of and grateful for our students, staff, and families, especially after seeing the huge outpouring of support last Thursday at our Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser. Thanks so much for helping us rocket past our goal of $30,000, and can you believe that we've reached a pledged profit of $44,064 pending remaining collections? Although the wind made it a little cooler outside than expected, the flags looked super snappy as the kids paraded out to the track at the start of each run.The excitement was contagious; the school spirit was incredibly visible; and the support of the volunteers and spectators was amazing. I have to say that Mr. Reyes and I were looking forward to fulfilling our "pie in the face" challenge as much as the kids! Many thanks to all of the parents, grandparents, relatives, and local businesses who pledged to support our kiddos. To our parent group, the Rocket Boosters: thanks for organizing, sending out messages, and promoting this event, under the extraordinary leadership of event chairpersons Mrs. Noble and Mr. O'Colmain. You are the best!
Also, our 4th Grade field trip to Junior Achievement Biztown was phenomenal! The kids set up their businesses, worked hard to run Biztown for the day, and came back to school after a real-world experience in economics, entrepreneurship, and civics. Families: please look for more information from your child's teacher about our upcoming school-wide event JA Day, which will take place at Rose Lane in May.
We are also looking forward to our first performance at the Madison Center for the Arts which will feature our 3rd and 4th graders in a music-dance showcase. Mr. Roach and Ms. Longwell have been busy getting our kiddos ready to retake the stage, with a lobby exhibit featuring art created in Mrs. Ewald's art class. Can't wait to see you there on February 22nd!
Families, I also need your help. We have noticed a significant increase in students arriving tardy, being withdrawn for the day early, or being left at school long after the afternoon bell has rung. Please remember that teachers teach from bell to bell. Not only do late arrivals and early withdrawals impact the students who are arriving at non-standard times, but they also disrupt instruction for the peers in those classrooms. Within three months, we will be doing our state and district testing, so teachers want to have every precious minute possible to help students develop mastery. Please help them achieve this by ensuring that students arrive on time, stay for the full day, and are picked up promptly so teachers can plan for even more success. Thank you very much for following through on this!
Finally, I want to also thank you for your kind words related to my upcoming retirement at the end of this school year. For those who may have missed this announcement, please follow this link to see my message: Letter from Principal Devine
Many thanks, once again, for your support at all times, and for being our partners at Rose Lane!

Notes from the nurse...
We are still in the midst of cold and flu season (October-February) and, in addition to that, Strep Throat and RSV are being diagnosed more frequently across several age groups in our community than in the past. We have not seen anything that would indicate ANY epidemic level outbreaks of any of the above here at Rose Lane but it’s always helpful to have information/guidance available when your child is complaining of not feeling well so you can follow up appropriately. Finally, since Covid-19 is still a “thing” (and probably will be in the future) along with the nuisance called Head Lice that will forever be a “thing” in community settings such as schools, some informational links have also been included that may prove to be useful. Please check out the following to learn more (or to revisit these topics):

*** At the present time, there are random reports of positive strep tests for what appears to be a "routine" sore throat (without the usual onset of strep throat-related symptoms). If your child with a sore throat has any history of having strep throat in the past, it would be beneficial to get a strep swab to hopefully to rule it out but (more importantly) to confirm a diagnosis so medication can be started early to prevent any additional health problems that might arise as a result of late treatment or non-treatment.
Theater/Dance News...
Students have been focused and working hard in Theater. As we begin to prepare for end of year shows, students are reviewing the elements of drama while practicing new scripts. In 3rd & 4th grade, students wrote their own commercial scripts and have been performing them during class. 1st & 2nd graders have started exploring new characters and adding in emotions and body language to their characters. Kindergarten has been working on class dances!
Rose Lane Rocket Boosters News...
Greetings Rose Lane families,
We hope everyone has had a nice start to their New Year! We are looking forward to creating
fun events for students and providing staff with support!
We know you couldn’t have missed Dojo’s and messages from your teacher about Fun Run! This is Rocket Boosters’ largest fundraiser. The money made from the Fun Run goes to lunch aides, teacher start up cash, and provides partial funding to our school library. We hope you hear stories from your kids about what a fun day they had.
On February 10th, Rocket Boosters are hosting a Family Friendship dance. This school event will be free admission, starting at 5:30pm. We will have food trucks, no tickets this time, cash or card with vendor.
Every year the Rocket Boosters organize Candy Grams! Your student can send a special friend or two a special candy gram to celebrate valentine’s day. Flyers will go home soon with more information.
Our next school dine out is Papa John’s Pizza on 16th street and Glendale on February 17th.
We are proud to announce at our last PTO meeting we voted on a re-boost of teacher start up cash to restock classroom supplies!
We are always looking for new Rocket Boosters members. Come to a meeting, virtual or in person. Our next meeting is Monday February 6th at 4:30pm.
With much appreciation,
Rocket Boosters
