A Letter From Dr. Carey April 8, 2022
Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
A Growing District
The Enumclaw School District continues to grow, adding wonderful students and families from the cities of Enumclaw and Black Diamond. Our district is currently experiencing significant and unprecedented growth within the Ten Trails Development in Black Diamond and we are excited to welcome new students and families to our district family.
Although this growth excites us and makes us stronger as a school system, it has led to challenges related to space and capacity. To address these challenges it is necessary for our district to implement processes and changes to help mitigate the growth in this concentrated area.
To avoid exceeding maximum capacity at Black Diamond Elementary and to maintain effective class sizes, the District has designated zones within the Ten Trails development that will attend Westwood Elementary beginning the 2022-2023 school year. Transportation within these areas will be provided and students will be transported 12-14 minutes to their new neighborhood school, Westwood Elementary. Please know that much time and consideration has gone into the determination of these areas to limit the disruption to students currently attending BDE as much as possible and ensure students on the same street or in the same neighborhood have the opportunity to attend the same school together.
We have students and families currently attending Black Diamond Elementary impacted by this change; however, we are confident they will quickly become members of the amazing Westwood School Family and feel right at home. We have invited families impacted by this change to attend an in-person session to welcome them to Westwood and address any questions or concerns about this transition.
Sincerely,
Shaun
Dear Enumclaw School District Students, Families and Staff,
ESSER funding will be used to provide additional academic interventions and social-emotional support for students over the next few years. We want to hear more about how we can provide equitable academic interventions to support learning recovery and acceleration, continue to meet the social-emotional needs of all students, and best provide professional development for our ESD staff.
This information will help inform our plan for spending the required set-aside amount of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) federal stimulus funds, as required by the legislation.
Please participate in the Thought Exchange using the link button below and provide your thoughts. Your input is a vital part of our process for determining the programs and supports we provide for our students. We will also be providing EHS students with the opportunity to provide their thoughts as well.
Question:
Over the next few years, ESSER funding will be used to provide additional academic interventions and social-emotional support for students. What programs, interventions, and/or supports should ESD prioritize within these areas? (e.g. Summer Learning, professional development for staff, etc. )
This Exchange is confidential. Your thoughts will be shared with other participants, but not your identity.
You will see and rate thoughts that others have shared. 5 stars = strongly agree, 1 star = strongly disagree.
You do not need to rate all thoughts, though we recommend you rate at least 20.
This Exchange will close on April 18, 2022.
We appreciate and value all of our volunteers who have provided support in our schools prior to COVID-19 restrictions. We are excited to invite volunteers back into our buildings. Please apply to volunteer below:

Voluntary COVID Testing Opportunities
The Voluntary PCR and Antigen COVID Testing Program Will Remain for Enumclaw School District Staff and Symptomatic Students as Long as Supplies Last
In collaboration with the state Department of Health, our school district will continue to participate in a state-funded program for voluntary COVID-19 screening and testing that will help contain the virus, protect our communities, and keep students and teachers healthy and safe.
This testing protocol fits into our larger strategy to contain and control the virus. Each precaution we take is an added layer of protection, and when used together, dramatically decreases the risk.
Additional Testing Opportunities for Students and Families- EMS Testing Site Closed On April 1
The Auburn testing site will remain open, at this time. There is also a testing site located at the park-n-ride in Bonney Lake.
