Principal's Message June 13 - 17

Dear Peabody and Watkins community,

What a week! We had a major disruption at Watkins on Wednesday, but the learning and fun continued throughout the week at both campuses.

We are especially excited about today's Field Day at Peabody and Tuesday's Field Day at Watkins. Our students are almost done with their End of Year assessments and we are transitioning to celebrations and fun. Please check out our instagram (see below) for an increased amount of content and joy.

  • June 21- DC Election Day- Watkins gym used as voting center (more info below).

      Asymptomatic Student Testing Schedule!

      Every Friday: Asymptomatic COVID testing for students.

      9:15 for Watkins

      9:15 for Peabody (Kindergarten only - PK students all test at home weekly)



Learning and community experiences will continue for all students until the last day of school, June 24. All students are expected to attend school until June 24.


Watkins Field Day June 14 Volunteers Wanted

We already have 24 caregivers that offered their time to support the effort. Thank you! Other volunteers are still welcome. You can sign up here.

Voting center at WATKINS- JUNE 21

Half of Watkins' gymnasium will be used as a voting center for the upcoming DC Primary Elections on June 21. Visitors will enter the voting site via the parking lot entrance which will be monitored by a security officer. The gymnasium divider will be used to keep visitors separate from students and security will also be stationed inside the gym for this purpose.

School wide Impact

  • Arrival: Students will enter the building through their normal door. However, location upon entry will change.
  • 1st and 2nd grade: will line up in the hallway next to their classrooms
  • 3rd- 5th grade: will line up in the cafe.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch (for grades currently eating in the cafe) will remain in the cafe.
  • Aftercare/ after school activities: no impact


DPR has notified school administration that their last day of aftercare for this school year is June 10th. Caregivers of DPR aftercare enrollees should be receiving an email from DPR with more information.

5th Grade Year-End Events in June

Our team has been busy planning the end of year fun for our 5th graders. Caregivers, please take note of these exciting events in June!

  • 15th - Promotion Practice at Stuart Hobson
  • 16th - Spring Dance on the Spirit of Washington
  • 17th - Promotion at Stuart Hobson
  • 24th - Last day of school for all students.

Library Book Checkouts End June 10th!

The last day to check out books from the Watkins Library is June 10th. All books need to be returned to the library before the last day of school. Please check your cars, under beds, backpacks, etc. for long lost books and overdue items. Contact the Librarian, Mrs. Moyo at with any questions.
