Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

We continue to get better every week. Students are starting to get their classroom routines down and I have enjoyed seeing them learning in class! Please keep reinforcing our High Five Behaviors at home and please take the time to ask them what they are learning in school Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jason Parrott

Oak Ridge Fun Run Update

Fun Run Update!

Make sure you register your student as a participant at this link. We currently have 18% of students registered--a great start--but we want 100% participation! To sweeten the deal, the first three classes to achieve a 90% rate of registered students will receive a special treat of RING POPS to take home.

LEADERBOARD:

  1. Ms. Lauinger is leading the pack with $1,025 raised and 57% of her class registered!! Great job! 10% of those funds will go directly to Ms. Lauinger for classroom funds.

  2. In second place is Mrs. Coates with $420 and 10% of her class registered! Way to represent the first graders!

  3. In third place, is Mrs. Mangum following closely behind with $415. Who wants to donate $6 to her class so she can pull ahead of Mrs. Coates?!

The three classes that raise the most money by our end date will be receiving some special incentive prizes to be announced soon--not to mention fun prizes for all who reach their personal fundraising goals. If the school reaches $25,000, Dr. Parrott will do an ULTIMATE DARE. Will he be slimed? Covered in chalk bombs? Will he dress in an outfit or our choice? Ideas welcome! Funds raised through the Fun Run will be used for our Oak Ridge events, classroom improvements, and advocating for YOU! Stay tuned for more updates!

Walk To School Day

Please join Oak Ridge students and staff, first responders, and some special guests on October 3 for Walk to School Day! Walkers will meet at 7:30am in the parking lot of Walgreens located at 1815 Rochester Rd. Students walking will receive a complimentary bagel and juice when they arrive at Oak Ridge. This is not a drop off event. All students walking must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Professional Learning Morning

Our first professional learning morning for staff will take place this Wednesday, September 13. This means that it is a late start for students. The first bell will ring at 9:20 a.m. with classes starting at 9:25 a.m.

VISITORS TO THE BUILDING

We are limiting visitors to the building especially before and after school. Please drop your students at their designated exterior door. We want to limit traffic and provide the safest environment possible. Thank you for cooperating with us in this matter!

Lunch Orders

As a reminder, the classroom teacher takes lunch orders one day in advance. If a child is absent, a lunch choice must be left on the Safety Check line by 9:00 a.m.

High Five Behavior of the Week

Green Team Needs Your Help

Hello Families!

The Green School Committee at Oak Ridge is in need of some help!

At lunch, the volunteers and lunch monitors have been overwhelmed with the amount of recycling that is being thrown away each day. They need some assistance helping students find the correct receptacles and cleaning/organizing recyclable items.

Last year, we added food composting to Oak Ridge, and are in need of some more helpful hands as students become acclimated to this new change and are reminded of the composting process!

If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Mrs. Mangum (molly.mangum@royaloakschools.org) Please don't feel obligated to help everyday...any time is extremely helpful! Volunteers are needed from approximately 11:30 am-12:30 pm each day.

Thank you in advance!

Field Trips and Volunteering

Please make sure you turn in all of your information for background checks two weeks prior to your event. This will allow us plenty of time to process your request. We often use parent drivers for many of our fieldtrips. Unfortunately we can not allow parents/guardians to drive their own child and drop them off. Volunteers and drivers are not permitted to bring a younger sibling along with them on the event. We want to make sure all students are accounted for and safety is a priority. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out our volunteer background form.

Families Needing Assistance with Financial Need

If you are in need of assistance with Field Trips, book fairs, supplies or anything else throughout the school year. Please fill out this brief form.

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications:

Thanks to the Michigan School Meals Program, a state-funded program that allows all students to receive meals at no cost for the 2023-2024 school year, breakfast and lunch will be free to all students. Second meals are not free and will be considered ala carte. Elementary school second lunches will be charged $2.60.

Although all students can receive meals at no cost, it is still vital that eligible families fill out a free/reduced meal application: A school’s eligibility for federal Child Nutrition Programs such as Summer Food Service Program and others is based on free and reduced-price eligibility. Students and families may qualify for other program fee reductions based on their eligibility for free or reduced-price meals. Federal and state education finding uses free and reduced-price eligibility.

Please complete the 2023-2024 online application on our website under Free and Reduced Meals Information. Paper applications will be sent out this month and available at the district office and in all schools in August.
