Burning Magnesium Lab
by Elizabeth Ritter
Mg
Here is the piece of magnesium that was lit on fire. This is what it looked like before it was burned.
Lab setup
A Bunsen burner was used to burn the magnesium. As it was burning, it was extremely bright.
Final product
The chemical change that took place turned the magnesium into magnesium oxide. It is an ashy material. The color went from gray to more black and white.
Mg the element
Magnesium is used with fireworks and road flares.
