Week of September 26th
A message from Mrs. Hilcher
We appreciate your partnership with us as we strive to provide an unmatched education for your child(ren) here at Timberline. Teachers will schedule a parent-teacher conference with each students’ parents during the first nine weeks of school. These conferences can take place in person, over the phone or via video conference using WebEx. During this conference, teachers will review student progress, beginning of year assessment results, class expectations, student goals and observations on student behavior. If you haven’t already scheduled this important meeting with your child’s teacher, please be sure to check your email, Remind 101 account and/or grade level newsletter for times to sign up for your conference. We value the opportunity to work with your child(ren) and to partner with you to give them the best!
TEA ACCOUNTABILITY OVERVIEW
Intruder Detection Audits
Over the summer, school districts engaged in several initiatives to enhance school safety as directed by Governor Abbott on June 1. This work continues this fall with intruder detection audits for public K-12 and charter schools and the review of emergency operation plans for public K-12, charter, and junior college districts.
The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) began intruder detection audits, in partnership with regional educational centers on September 12, 2022, and while the specific date or time that the audits will be conducted is not revealed to districts, GCISD expects audits of our campuses within the upcoming weeks. The purpose of these audits is to assess the access control measures of a campus during the school day. For example, inspectors will check to see if they are able to gain unauthorized access through exterior doors and if the campus is conducting required exterior weekly door sweeps.
Audits will be conducted by trained inspectors, in plain clothing, who if stopped by school personnel, will self-identify and proceed with the rest of the intruder audit. They will not be simulating an intrusion. Any findings will be provided to the district as soon as possible to enable districts to remedy findings. Please remember that we all play a critical role in keeping our schools safe, and we ask for your continued partnership and support of our security efforts

Balls & toys need to remain home
Over the past few weeks, we’ve noticed that many of our students are bringing toys and basketballs, soccer balls, etc. to school. Please help us remind students that these items need to stay at home. We don’t want these personal items to distract from our learning environment and/or to get lost. We appreciate your support!
Join the Timberline PTA
PTA is looking for a few good members! No volunteering is necessary, your $10 membership provides fun activities like Taste of Timberline, Glow Dance, and Teacher Appreciation Week. Go to joinpta.org or look for the red paper in your child’s take-home folder next week to join!
Lunch Visitors
We are excited to welcome parents as lunch visitors again this year. Guests should call the front office to reserve their seating prior to their child’s lunchtime. There is limited seating available for each lunchtime for visitors and only the student related to the visitor will be allowed to sit at our designated visitor seating area. As with all visitors, extra time should be considered for checking in using our Raptor system and a government-issued ID. We suggest arriving at least ten minutes prior to your child’s lunchtime.
Birthdays at Timberline
Students may distribute birthday party invitations only if they include the entire class. If every student in the classroom is not receiving a birthday party invitation, invitations will not be distributed at school.
