From the Principal:
Mustang Families,
Wow! We are two-thirds of the way through the school year! This week on Wednesday, we have an 11:55 dismissal for our teachers to work on report cards. Friday, March 24th is when report cards will go home to families. At this point in the year, we look at students’ classroom progress and attendance to determine if students are on track. With two trimesters complete, six or fewer absences is considered typical. Congratulations to many students who have had good or perfect attendance this trimester. We look at academic progress to be certain that students are getting the necessary support to be successful. We continue to look at our data to see how students are progressing and offering additional LAP support if needed. At Midland, “ALL STUDENTS ARE CAPABLE OF SUCCESS, NO EXCEPTIONS!”
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Fourth and Fifth Grade Puberty, CSHE, and HIV Lessons
Comprehensive sexual health education is defined in Washington state as instruction about human development and reproduction that takes place over time and is age-appropriate and inclusive of all students. Required instruction for grades 4–5 focuses on helping students understand and respect personal boundaries, develop healthy friendships, and gain a basic understanding of human growth and development. Grade 5 instruction also includes required HIV prevention instruction. To learn more about the curriculum and parent opt out forms, please click the picture that says, "Puberty, the Wonder Years." Intro. to Emotions/Feelings
All students are beginning a unit on Emotions and Feelings. The SEL standards we will working toward include:
I can recognize, identify, and name my emotions, feelings, and thoughts.
I can explain the different intensities of my emotions and feelings. (I will also refer to it as “Shades of Emotions”)
We will stress the understanding that, while not all words and actions are okay, ALL emotions are okay. We will talk about how emotions might feel in our bodies, how emotions SHOULD come and go. We will discuss and make personal connections to shades of happy, sad, and mad. We will end our unit on Emotions and Feelings with a lesson on strategies for managing our emotions so that they don’t get too big or stay too long to assure that we are all emotionally strong and well.
