Henri Matisse
- Matisse lived from December 1869 to November 1954. He was a French artist, known for his paintings and collages.
- Matisse is thought of, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the most famous artists of the twentieth century
- Some of his paintings were very unusual for the time and he was one of a group of painters called the fauvists. Fauve means 'wild beast' in French.
- Later in life he had problems with his vision and he began making cut paper collages out of painted paper.
- Some of his paper collages covered the walls in his house.
