Wheeling 360 Semester 1 Report
What has been going in our W360 teams this semester?
Summary
Read below to learn more about what each team has accomplished so far this semester!
LEAD team
SAT Learning and Growth Goals
It is true that as we shift from ACT to SAT, there is a lot to re-learn, but all of our time together in LEAD has been spent increasing our personal understandings of the SAT, evaluating where we are in terms of supporting student growth through our curriculum and assessment, and working together interdisciplinarily to support each other and our students.
LEARN team
RtI supported through LEARN
Is work not done because:
1) You had no time because of extra curriculars?
2) You had no time because of family/job responsibilities?
3) You didn't know what the work was?
4) You forgot to do it?
5) You don't have the materials to complete the work?
6) You don't know HOW to do the work?
7) You don't want to do the work?
Once we have a clearer picture of WHY missing/incomplete work is truly tripping up our students, we will start to brainstorm tier 1 and 2 interventions to help students improve (and hopefully, our D/F grades will improve, too).
Remember, this team is totally voluntary! We appreciate everyone who has come to join us, and also all the study hall and RtI team members who have worked hard this semester in the name of student success. Look for emails about how you can get involved if you are interested in supporting this work!

Opening Access to AP
WHAT? It isn't?
I think that this is a common misconception about what is going on with Equity and with our whole EOS initiative! The goal of this team is to support opening access to AP classes for all of our underrepresented students. To put it simply, let me ask you this question. Do our honors and AP classes reflect the makeup of our overall student body, or are white/high income students disproportionately represented in these classes? The goal of this team has been to fix that! We want all of our students, no matter their race or SES, to have access to rigorous curriculum that will prepare them for college.
This semester, this team has looked at a lot of data of collected from our EOS surveys and also our current AP students and teachers. These conversations are not easy, and our meetings have been rich with discussion, brainstorming, and problem-solving.
As we begin scheduling for the 2018-2019 school year, how can you encourage a non-traditional AP student to try out an AP class for the first time? You may be just who the student needs to hear from to accept the challenge and opportunity that AP brings.
EXCEL team
Kagan and Learning from Each Other
This team has read a ton of Kagan this semester, with the goal of incorporating cooperative learning strategies to increase our students' sense of belonging. That is one of the most important factors in helping all of our students be successful in AP...do they feel like they BELONG? Do they have "friends" in the class that they can turn to and team with? And as a teacher, how can we foster that sense of belonging? This Kagan work was also supported by peer observations.
As we move to second semester, this team is going to do some problem-solving together, focusing on interventions, time management for students, stress management for students, and AP test prep.
If you are an AP teacher and you know you have a student struggling, please encourage them to go to the AP support group (details below).
Looking forward to a great 2nd semester!
As we move forward, if you have ideas about Wheeling 360, please reach out to Becky or Chris. This program is FOR teachers...so we want it to be helpful, purposeful, and inspiring. Let us know how we can be better!
