In Peace class, students have been learning about respect and kindness. 4th and 5th graders created an “I have a dream” quilt (paper). Ms. Leach, our TCU counseling intern, and I are piecing it together! The dreams that these kids have are incredible! We have students who are going to change the world! Our next topic in Peace class will be trustworthiness.
Click on Burleson News for tons of family-friendly activities in our area. If you attend any of these events, please share your pictures on Brock’s Twitter or Facebook pages.
Click on the Educators’ Spin on It for January family fun activities! The calendar has recipes and directions for polar bear biscuits, snowman pizza, a pretend snow sensory bin as well as a snowglobe art project! Be sure and share your pictures on Brock’s Twitter or Facebook pages!
I would like to thank our PTO for purchasing a carpet for the Peace class! It brightens up the room with its vibrant colors and there are 33 words of character on it: fairness, bold, honest, loyal, and thoughtful just to name a few!
I wanted you all to know that on Monday, January 30, I will begin a new role as the counselor at Norwood Elementary. They have been without a counselor all year and I’ve been assisting some of their students once a week. Please know that your children will still be loved and taken care of as our new Communities in School Social Worker (CIS), Deneshia Eason, will support them and you. She will be on campus Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm. Our TCU counseling intern, Kayla Leach, will be here each Tuesday and Thursday and is quite familiar with all of our Brock Tigers as she interned last year. Also, Becca Auen, the previous Brock counselor, will be on campus each Wednesday and Friday so your kids will be extra loved. I have had the honor of working with your sweet kiddos and will hold each of them close to my heart. Many have asked if I plan on coming back to visit and the answer is “YES!” If there is anything I can do to help you or your children, you may continue to email me at jennifer.kirkpatrick@bisdmail.net and I’ll make sure you get the support needed.`
If your family is in need of assistance (economic, family support, crisis/emergency, health/wellness, or mental health), please call Mrs. Deneshia Eason , our CIS social worker, at 817-245-3800 or email her at Deneshia Eason. All information is kept confidential.

Attendance Matters
Our School Wide Attendance Goal for the Year is 97%
Attendance Incentive- The classroom is working to spell out Perfect Attendance. Each day everyone is in attendance (including the teacher), and the classroom earns a letter of the word. Once they spell out Perfect Attendance, the class will celebrate! The teacher will decide on the celebration in his/her classroom.
The winning grade level each week will earn a special dress-up day: Hat Day, PJ Day, etc. Teacher choice for Friday of the following week.

Attendance: Texas Education Code
Dear Parent / Legal Guardian:
Our district’s goal is that all students will be successful. One of the most important factors that contribute to a student’s academic success is their attendance in class on a daily basis. As a partner in your child’s success, Burleson Independent School District wants to encourage you to make school attendance a top priority for your child.
Texas Education Code states that it is the parents’ duty to monitor and require their child to
attend school (TEC 25.093). The Code further states that if a student is absent 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period may be considered excessive. The following is an example of what is
subject to happen if your child has excessive absences:
(1) The student’s parent is subject to prosecution under Section 25.093, Texas Education
Code; and
(2) The student is subject to referral to a truancy court for truant conduct under Section
65.003(a), Family Code.
Please make every effort to see that your child is in school and that you have notified us of
his/her absence (i.e., calling the school on the day of the absence with the reason for the absence), or that your student has returned with the appropriate excuse documentation (i.e., note from a doctor, dentist, therapist, or court representative including student’s name, date of absence(s) and professional’s signature, or funeral documentation). According to Burleson ISD School Board Policy FEC (Local), if your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note will be required.
Burleson Independent School District appreciates the opportunity to work in partnership with
parents in our goal to ensure student success in all their endeavors. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning attendance issues.
