I was so happy to speak with so many of you this week with conferences. If I was not able to attend your child's conference and you have questions or concerns for me, please e-mail me. I am so lucky to work with a group of wonderful students and parents. Thank you for your support of our work here at school!
Next week we will be working on graphing, focusing on picture and bar graphs. This is a very hands on and fun unit. We will make and analyze graphs throughout the week.
Math Rules has been going very well. Please remember that students are expected to attempt every question. It is okay for you to help them with hints. They are also able to ask me directional questions at the beginning or end of class each day.
3rd Grade:
We have had a great week with division, focusing on 4 main strategies: repeated subtraction, equal groups model, multiplication facts, and a number line. The foundation we built with multiplication has really helped with division.
Next week we will work to find missing numbers in multiplication and division sentences and extend 2nd grade graphing skills focusing on bar graphs. Our test over division and graphing will be Friday, Oct 2nd.
Math Rules has been going very well. Please remember that students are expected to attempt every question. It is okay for you to help them with hints. They are also able to ask me directional questions at the beginning or end of class each day. Math Rules is due on Monday!
4th Grade:
We have been busy working on division and problem solving this week. The partial quotients algorithm for division (video on E-class) has gone well. However, students do make careless mistakes in their subtraction and multiplication facts. If you notice this, please encourage your child to give themselves enough space to avoid errors and to write down a set of friendly facts before attempting the problem.
Next week will be lots of problem solving. Students may have Friday homework this week depending on how much they are able to complete in class. We are working on interpreting the remainder of a division word problem. This is an important (and often tricky) skill.
The test over Division and Problem Solving will be Tuesday, Oct 6th.
Since our week was so busy, I never assigned CML. A CML will go home Monday of next week. It will be due Monday, Oct. 5th.
5th Grade:
What a great week with ratios and proportions. We introduced percentages this week as well. We will continue to work on percentages into Monday. On Tuesday we will focus on how to use ratios to solve customary and metric conversions. Wednesday students will take a daily grade. Friday, Oct. 2nd will be the test over Ratios and Proportions. I will send a study guide with the students on Monday. This study guide will be due on Thursday.
We will also do a Kahoot review quiz on Thursday in class. Devices are encouraged!
Since we will have a busy week getting ready for our test, I will not send a CML until after our test.
