What's Happening at Gaines Elementary School

March 28th - Flashlight Reading Day - Bring a flashlight to school.

March 29th - Wacky Wednesday - Bring a joke book to school

March 31st - Read on the Beach Party

March 31st - Half Day of School (dismissal at 11:55 AM)

April 3rd - Spring Break Begins (school resumes Monday, April 10th)

1 in 4 children in Genesee County lives in poverty and their families struggle to provide diapers.

State and Federal assistance can be used to buy candy and pop but not diapers.

Many babies are forced to wear the same diaper all day or several days.

Every dollar buys 7 diapers at cost and changes a baby for the day.

Every dime stays right here in Genesee County to help change diapers and lives.

The diaper bank has been providing free water with every pack of diapers throughout the water emergency.

This fundraiser is sponsored by ELGA Credit Union and ABC 12. ELGA Credit Union will provide a pizza party for the classroom that raises the most money. ABC 12 will feature the top 3 schools during the "GOOD KIDS SEGMENT " which airs each Friday in the 5:00 PM news hour. Winning schools will also be able to present their check "live" during the ABC 12/ELGA Credit Union Diaper Drive on May 5th.


If your child would like to participate in our next GASP session please make sure the registration form is turned in NO LATER THAN the end of the school day on Friday, March 31st. Late forms will NOT be accepted.

The session dates are April 13th, April 20th, May 4th and May 11th (Thursdays). Students must be picked up at 4:45 PM on these dates.


April 10th - School resumes

April 12th - Student Council Penny War begins

April 14th - No School

April 19th - PTO Mornings With Mom 8:00 - 8:40 AM

April 21st - Student Council Penny War ends

April 21st - Me and My Guy Dance at Swartz Creek Middle School

April 27th - Early release - dismissal at 1:30 PM

April 28th - Jump Rope For Heart assembly at 1:30 PM

April 28th - PTO Family Fun Night at Swartz Creek Middle School 6:00 - 9:00 PM

For the Safety Of Our Students Please Review our Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Thank you to our parents and family members who are following the "ONE WAY" traffic each morning and afternoon. For those Gaines families that don't know, when dropping off and picking up students you MUST enter at the driveway by the kickball field and exit next to the building across from the swings and basketball court. The front of the school is for bus traffic in the morning and afternoon. PLEASE DO NOT drop your child/children on the opposite side of the street from the front of our building. This can be very dangerous, especially when they are walking in between the buses and cannot be seen by the bus drivers. Please be cautious and watch for students who may be outside when you arrive. The second set of cones are set up until 3:35 pm. If you are visiting school between 9:00 am and 2:45 pm you may park in front of the building ONLY during these times. All visitors are required to check in at the office and receive a visitors pass that MUST be worn so that staff members can see it and will know you have checked in. Please remember that the safety of our students is our number one priority.

Second grade recess 12:20 - 12:40 pm; Lunch 12:40 - 1:00 pm

Third grade recess 12:05 - 12:25 pm; Lunch 12:25 - 12:45 pm

Fourth grade recess 12:15 - 12:35 pm; Lunch 12:35 - 12:55 pm

4/5 & Fifth grade recess 12:25 - 12:45 pm; Lunch 12:45 - 1:05 pm
