Adopt American Children too

Why People Should Adopt Domestically In The USA
Does anyone know what aging out is? Aging out is when a child in the foster care system turns eighteen and is on their own. Now does anyone know how many children age out of the American foster care system each year? Over 30,000 children in the Ameican foster care system "age out" each year. For three weeks I researched not only facts but I also researched stories of why people should adopt domestically.
By doing this research I found that more people should adopt Domesticlaly in the USA because research has shown couples who do are usually provided with a more detailed medical record and social history of the birth parents. Did you know that most couples who adopt internationally probably will not have access to a child’s medical record? Which would include information such as family medical history or possible parental exposures to drugs or alcohol. If a parent exposed the baby to drugs or alcohol that would affect your baby and really damage its brain and body. Other things that a family adopting might not know is how and why the child is up for adoption. Just like in 1998 when a law professor at Samford University in Alabama adopted a pair of children from India, only to discover a little while later that they were stolen from their mother. This most likely wouldn't have happened if the child was adopted from America. Adoption centers such as American Adoptions, make information about the child’s birth parents and family medical history or any possible exposure to drugs or alcohol while the child was in the womb available to the families wanting to adopt the child prior to their match and allow them to accept or deny the match based on those factors. So why do so many people adopt overseas knowing there is so much information being withheld from them instead of adopting the foster care children from America first?
Studies show that adoptive families report more happiness when they have similar likes, personality, and appearance. The National Association of Black Social Workers is adamantly opposed to transracial adoptions, arguing that such adoptions are “racial genocide”. It's not just a few social workers saying this. Even most adoption professionals agree that with all things being equal that it’s better to place an African American child with an African American family. Even parents of the children being adopted agree with these proffesionals. There have been surveys showing that a mother living in Africa prefers having her child adopted overseas somewhere else rather than here because she believes they are significantly less prejudice there than in the U.S. In the end foreign children are not the only ones who are in need of a home.
There are children right here who need a loving and caring family too. People in the USA need to adopt domesticlaly because couples who do are provided with a more detailed medical record and social history of the birth parents, also over 30,000 children in the Ameican foster care system "age out" each year, and studies show that adoptive families report more happiness when they have similar likes, personality, and appearance. So next time you hear someone say they want to adopt overseas maybe you should tell them how many children are in need of a home here. Thank you for listening.
