Kinder Review

January 1, 2016

Happy New Year!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their vacations and the holiday season!!! I am so ready for the kids to come back to school. I am also ready to start the second half of our kindergarten year on a great note!!! We have a lot to do upon returning to school. Please make sure that your kids are ready to get it started right!

Literacy Corner

Prior to us leaving for winter break we reviewed all Letterlanders, letters and sounds taught up to that point. We also reviewed all sight words taught thus far. We reviewed rhyming using a variety of activities. The students are getting much better with their reading!!! We read a many different books on many different topics associated with Christmas prior to break. We mostly focused on comprehension after reading all of the selections. We also worked on our writing skills. Please make sure that the students are putting a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, spaces between the words, and punctuation at the end. Please focus on sentences that make sense and spelling all word wall words correctly.

This week we will continue to introduce Letterland characters, the letters associated with each, as well as their sound. We will also continue working on rhyming words. We will introduce new word wall words and work on our reading and writing skills. Our thematic unit will be on winter and animals in winter. We will also begin our review and assessments for the end of 2nd Quarter.

Math Lab

Prior to leaving for winter break we worked on counting to 100, adding, shapes and writing our numbers.

We will work on reviewing all skills taught this far, while working on our positional words and sorting skills. We will also begin reviewing for, and taking, our end of the quarter assessments.

Parental FYI and Reminders

Please review the expectations with your child. Being out for two weeks, there are bound to be some who forget the expectations. It is important that we remain focused on the main goal of learning. By reviewing and adhering to the expectations our goal will be met.
