Big picture

Principal Perspective - Distance Learning for All!

Last Wednesday was a sad day as we watched the announcement that our in-person school year is over. We now know that we will finish the school year online, so we are all sharpening our skills on Seesaw, Zoom and other ways to connect with our kids. Thanks for your patience as we learn and adjust to this new way of teaching and learning.


We will develop a plan for students and teachers to clean out their personal items from our classrooms in the coming weeks. However, if you urgently need an item for your child from our building, please let me know and we can schedule a time for pick up.


I look forward to connecting with parents this week during our PTC meeting Tuesday evening and through virtual Coffee with the Principal on Wednesday morning. Please see you email for codes to each of these events.

Chromebook Round 3 is Coming!

We have completed two rounds of Chromebook distribution, but know there are still families waiting for Chromebooks. We do not yet know the date of our third round, but if you are still in need of a Chromebook, please email your teacher so that we can let you know when those become available.

Having trouble accessing BSD online resources or with your Chromebook? BSD has established a student helpdesk to address these issues.

PTC Plant Sale

Deadline to place an order is April 15th and plants will be available for pick up or delivery on May 8th between 3:00 – 4:00 pm.


If you would like to place an order, please do the following:


1. Print and fill out the forms attached to your email.

2. See https://newleafgreenhouse.com/new-leaf-fundraising-program/spring-fundraiser/ for plant descriptions

3. Attach a check for your total made out to ‘Ridgewood PTC’

4. Drop off or mail your order form and check to Katie Bolton at 1060 SW Hillcroft Ave Portland OR 97225 (if you mail please email a copy of the order form so we make sure to get if before the deadline)

5. Include a note to let us know if you are available to pick up your plants at Ridgewood on May 8th or if you would like delivery (delivered plants will be placed at or near your front doorstep – no contact)

6. Please include your phone number and email address with your order in the event we need to contact you.

Ridgewood PTC

Playground Closed

All Beaverton schools and buildings are closed and this includes our playgrounds, fields, and tracks. All outdoor gates have been locked in support of public health and to limit the spread of COVID-19. Due to limited staff we are unable to maintain safe fall zones at our play structures. Also, please note on Sunday, March 22, 2020, THPRD notified the community that their outdoor playgrounds and exercise equipment are closed to the public.

Resources

In addition to resources provided to all BSD families, our Ridgewood Community has set up resources for our families, specifically our Little Free Library and new Little Free Pantry. Both are located at the front entry of our building, and have food, hygiene items, school supplies and books available for families. If you are able to contribute items to either pantry, please do so. You are welcome to take without giving and give without taking. If your family has a specific need to be met, please reach out to our staff as well, and we will help as we are able.


The Beaverton School District is providing free meals at several sites between 11:00 and 12:00. Students must be present to pick up a meal. The closest site for us is William Walker Elementary School. Grab and go meals will be available on these dates:

    • April 13-18

    • April 20-24

    • April 27-28

If at any time you are in need of emergency food, please call us at Ridgewood and leave a message. Messages will be checked daily. We will do our best to assist you.


Anyone can call 211 for assistance with housing, childcare, utility bills, or if you have health and safety questions or need any other resources. Help is available in several languages. You can also get help online at http://211.org/

BOX TOPS COLLECTION GOES DIGITAL


The paper box top collection program has been discontinued by General Mill, so we are no longer collecting box tops at school. However, you can still earn money for Ridgewood; if you see the label below, simply use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth the same amount and what’s great is the app will instantly add cash to the school’s earnings online. Find more info here.
