MPE Weekly Roar

September 16, 2022

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Please be sure to follow all traffic rules around MPE. Safety first!

We started the Week of Respect on Monday wearing yellow. Tuesday was our first Community Meeting and Friday was our Walk-a-thon. If you like to help support the walk-a-thon efforts, it is not too late, please consider sending in a donation by Monday, October 10th. There is form attached below.

Next week is our annual book fair. Each class will be going to the book fair one day next week to shop for books. Students are encouraged to look through books and find their new favorites! We will be having special night time shopping hours on Tuesday, October 11th. Special guests will read to the students in the MPE small gym. Please enter from the back of the building. The entrance to the small gym is close to the playground.

Our 2nd annual Spelling Bee will take place in February. The list of spelling words will be sent home early next week to all MPE students. All MPE children will take a school-wide spelling test on December 8th, 2022. Stay tuned for more details.

October 12th is National Walk to School Day! In honor of this special day, Officer Joy from the Livingston Police Department has put together a video and pledge for our MPE students. The children will watch the video with their classes. You are encouraged to review it at home and complete the pledge form with your child before October 11th. All students who complete the pledge will be entered into a raffle. On October 12th, students who walk or bike to school will be welcomed with posters and stickers! https://livingstonnj.org/1530/Pedestrian-Safety

We are excited to announce our first scarecrow walk. Please complete the attached form if your family would like to help decorate the front of the building during Red Ribbon Week. MPE Family Fun Scarecrow Walk 2022

From Mr. Seltzer

Hello! My name is Brian Seltzer and I am excited to be back at MPE to teach General Music and G.T. Music. In addition to teaching at MPE, I am also the Band Teacher at Collins and Burnet Hill Elementary School. I am a graduate from The College of New Jersey with a degree in Music Education and a concentration in Saxophone Performance. As a music teacher, my goal is to instill a lifelong love of music through the exploration of music history, music theory, and music performance. I look forward to exploring, performing, and learning about a wide variety of musical genres from all over the world with my students, and am looking forward to a great year at MPE!

From Ms. Phillip

I have been teaching music for 10 years. I teach orchestra and general music in Livingston. I play lots of instruments like the violin, viola, cello, bass, piano and don't forget the recorder. Yes, I know you remember the recorder! My favorite aspect about teaching music is when my students can share the same love of music as I do.

From Our ESL Teacher

Hi! My name is Smruti Shah. I am currently an ESL teacher at Mt. Pleasant Elementary and Middle school. I have had the pleasure of being an ESL teacher for over 10 years. I studied at TCNJ and I have my first Master’s degree in English as a Second Language and my second Master’s in Instructional Education. I am fluent in English, Gujarati, and Hindi. It is so enriching to work in a community where students come from such a diversity of backgrounds. I am happy to be part of the Livingston School District serving our students so that they can recognize and reach their highest learning potential through reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the English language. I always remember my personal experience as a language learner and it has helped me to better understand and connect with my students. I know how important it is to encourage students and congratulate them on their efforts, no matter how small the achievement is. As a teacher, my purpose is to inspire a deep love for learning and build strategies that students can use in years to come. I am here to inspire. I believe in my students and their ability to learn.

From Our School Counselor, Mrs. Kelner

I hope everyone had a restful, fun summer. I am so excited to be back at MPE and looking forward to seeing all of the MPE students learn and grow this school year. This school year, our students will learn about and celebrate the 6 pillars of character; trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. This will be done through classroom lessons and school wide events! Please know I am here to support your child socially, emotionally, or academically. If you or your child needs support, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Jkelner@livingston.org

Our School Nurse

Our MPE School Nurse is Mrs. Cullen. Please reach out to her with all of your health questions.
