Caribou Trails Update

Published by Crawford Elementary January 2, 2021

Welcome to 2022!

Hello Crawford families,

I hope this finds you safe and well and ready to embark on the second half of the school year.

We are looking forward to seeing students on Tuesday for the start of the new semester. Although the weather has not been kind, and the schools were not dug out this morning, I have been assured that they will be ready for staff tomorrow and for students on Tuesday.

As we begin the second semester, there are a few changes to note. Students in the 4/5 class and 5th and 6th grade students will have WIN (What I Need) time in place of Encores. This will give teachers and students more time to work on personalizing instruction for students and for students to reflect on their progress. During this time pull-out classes such as ELP, ELL, Resource, band and orchestra will happen. Mrs. Brazier will send out more information about the updated schedule for her students. We are so happy that band and orchestra have been so successful that we needed to augment the schedule!

Please see below for the information about the School Efficiency report and survey. The survey closes tonight, so please make sure your voice is heard and complete the survey.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening and a great week!

School Efficiency Task Force Information

As you may know, each of the four options on the School Efficiency Task Force Report suggested closing Anderson Elementary School and consolidating those K-2 students into Crawford, making it a K-5 school with 6th grade at Ben Eielson Junior/Senior High School.

Communication was recently sent out by the school district regarding the potential closing of Anderson Elementary, the shifting of Anderson students/staff to the Crawford building (K-5), and the 6th grade students shifting to BEJH/BEHS.

Encores are Evolving Into WIN Time

Encores are no longer for third quarter, and we are excited to announce that we will replacing Encores with WIN Time. WIN stands for What I Need and will incorporate Personalized Learning and Student Reflection and Ownership more completely into student learning, allowing for expanded time to work with grade level teachers in 4/5 and fifth and sixth grades. ELL, ELP, Resource and Band and Orchestra will continue. Students will be receiving individualized schedules from Mrs. Brazier. Thanks to everyone for supporting your children in exploring music!
