Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Virginia Lazinek

Every week we will shine a spotlight on one of our very own Hometown Staff members. This week we will meet Mrs. Virginia Lazinek.

How long and what grades have you taught?

I have taught for 19 years in District 123. I have taught 6th grade, 2nd grade, 1st grade, and now I am the Library Media Specialist at both Hometown School and Hannum School.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

If I could travel ANYWHERE it would definitely be to Europe. I would love to make an entire Euro trip out of a month-long journey and visit Czechoslovakia, Germany, Croatia, because those are the countries where I get my Baltic routes from. However, I would LOVE to also visit France, Italy and Spain as well to be able to study the different cultures there!

What is the best thing about working at Hometown?

The best thing about working at Hometown School is the students of course!! Hometown School has such sweet and respectful students who love to learn! I love to be able to help them quench their hunger for the books they're interested in and also teach them how to research topics they want to learn more about!

What is your favorite food?

I absolutely LOOOOOVE food, so this one is a hard one! LOL! I l also love trying new dishes from many cultures. However, I would HAVE to say that the one food I can NEVER seem to walk away from without having a slice, is good old fashioned Chicago style pizza. I love it all ; deep dish, stuffed, thin crust...you name it! Veggie pizza is my absolute fav!

Who is someone you admire and why?

Someone whom I admire greatly is my husband Mr. Lazinek! Together we have four children (two girls and two boys) and have been married for 25 years! He is also a police officer, which is a very difficult, but important job that requires lots of patience and tact. He has always done his best to make his family and his community feel safe and protected.

If you see Mrs. Lazinek around the school make sure you say hello!!
