Student of the Month -- Special Recognition
Special Recognition – The Bordentown Lodge No. 2085 B.P.O. Elks have a program whereby, once a month, they recognize and reward a FTMHS “Student of the Month.” This student must be a senior. It is our pleasure to recognize John Woolston as our Elks’ Student of the Month for September. John is a hardworking individual who was selected because of his strong character and academic and extracurricular achievements. Congratulations, John!
Academic Achievement Program
Academic Achievement Program – 326 students (or 72% of our student body) earned a GPA of a 3.0 or better for MP 1! In addition, a number of students were one grade (in some cases, one percentage point) away from qualifying! Please continue to challenge your children to be satisfied with nothing less than their best! We want our students to have every opportunity available to them after high school. Earning a GPA of at least a 3.0 with no D’s or F’s on their transcript will make a BIG difference!
All of these students will receive certificates for their hard work! In addition, we will hold a drawing very soon and four of these hard working students (one from each grade level) will receive a $25 gift card (for Barnes and Noble, Wawa, or Amazon) from our AWESOME Parents Organization. Special thanks to our teachers, staff, and our Parents Organization for all of their ideas and support! Special thanks to the P.O. for providing the rewards!

Please discuss the paperwork and payment plan for next year's senior class trip to Disney with your parents.
The second payment for those following the payment plan is due by December 20 in the amount of $100. Please remember that all payments must be made by check or money order. If you are not following the payment plan, you can pay any amount at any time to reduce the final cost of the trip.
Here is a copy of the letter sent home...
Dear Members of Florence High School Class of 2020 and Parents/Guardians:
Though the Senior year of high school seems far away at this point, it will arrive more quickly than you realize. That's why it is important to start thinking about it now. There are many activities associated with the senior year. Naturally, all of these mean extra expenses. One activity that remains popular with the senior class also happens to be the most expensive - that activity is the Senior Class Trip to Florida. Over the years, this trip has been an extraordinarily educational experience and a source of great fun for those who have participated. Even though we are still in the planning phase of the trip, it doesn’t vary too much from year to year. A sample itinerary is enclosed for you so that you will have a general idea of what students experience on a class trip.
We would like to get as many seniors to go on the trip as possible. With that being said, we would like to give you the opportunity to start paying for the senior trip as soon as possible. A trip for the Class of 2020 will cost approximately $1,400. At the end of Junior year the cost will be finalized and the last five payments will be adjusted accordingly. In addition, during their Senior year, the students will have an opportunity to participate in fundraising activities to further offset the cost of the trip.
Included you will find a suggested payment schedule that you may be interested in following. The plan is a very simple one. You may send in the specified amount on the date indicated. This will spread your payments out so as not to burden your finances at any one time. However, you are free to establish your own schedule and send in any amount at any time. Payments can be made with a check or money order made payable to FTMHS Class of 2020 Senior Trip. Payments can be delivered in person by students or dropped off in the main office during business hours. Receipts will be issued for all payments.
Students who do not use the installment plan are certainly welcome to pay larger amounts at any time as long as they make the necessary deposits listed on information you will receive at the end of Junior year. Students who pay and ultimately decide not to go on the trip, or who move from the district can expect a full refund up to the first week of December, 2019. After that date, refunds will not be given unless other students are available to take the vacant spots.
Please think about becoming involved with the installment plan. If it is your wish to do so, keep the included schedule handy so that you can keep track of the dates. As their Senior year gets closer, trip updates will be sent home so you will be kept well-informed. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the trip or the payment schedule, please feel free to contact us at the school. Please mark any payments that are dropped off: ATTN: Ms. Couts or Ms. Fenn - Class of 2020-Senior Trip. Be sure to include the student's name and graduation year with the payment. Make all checks/money orders payable to FTMHS-Senior Trip 2020.
The goal of the program is to have as many students as possible involved in this once in a lifetime experience with their friends.
Suggested Trip Payment Schedule
The following trip payment schedule has been devised for a trip price of approximately $1,400. Until the travel agency gives us a firm price, and the Board of Education approves a trip for the Class of 2020, this amount is only tentative. Payments can be made on or about the dates indicated and in any amount. The columns labeled Your Date and Your Payment can be used for your personal bookkeeping records.

FDA and Scholastic Vaping
DID YOU KNOW:
E-cigarettes come in a variety of shapes and sizes and may not look like a tobacco product, which can make them hard to spot.
Some devices popular among teens—like JUUL and myblu—are as small as a USB flash drive and even look like one.
Certain products emit very low amounts of aerosol or “vapor,” which makes them easier to use discreetly than combustible cigarettes.
Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, the same highly addictive drug in cigarettes. Some e-cigarettes may contain as much nicotine as a pack of 20 regular cigarettes.
Know the Risks: e-cigarettes and young people
E-cigarette Basics
E-cigarettes are devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol that the user inhales. The liquid usually has nicotine and flavoring in it, and other additives. The nicotine in e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes is addictive. E-cigarettes are considered tobacco products because most of them contain nicotine, which comes from tobacco.
Besides nicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including:
- Ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs;
- Flavorants such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease;
- Volatile organic compounds;
- Heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead.
