Evans Middle School Virtual Opening
2020 Revised Re-Opening FAQ for Evans Families
In response to significantly rising local transmission rates of COVID-19 throughout July, the Coweta County School System will start the school year with virtual and remote learning for all students.
Below are information slides and general information from Dean Jackson, CCSS Office of Public Information. There are also frequently asked questions (FAQ's) along with information regarding meals for digital learners.
(Links included in the FAQ's toward the bottom of this newsletter.)
- a link for Empower enrollment (now through August 7th)
- a link to remove your student from the Empower Program before August 7th
- a link to indicate that you have no WiFi access at home
- a link for virtual learners to sign up for meal pick-up or delivery
- a link to update your address or phone number in Infinite Campus (important for this to be correct so our school and/or homeroom teachers can contact you regarding schedules)
We are working hard to plan for a digital opening and will communicate more information regarding drive-thru welcomes, material pick-ups, and virtual parent and student orientations in the upcoming week. Whether learning at home or learning at The Cougar Den, we are here for our families and will continue to provide appropriate support for your child.
If your student receives special education services, has a 504 plan, or receives Tier 3 support, you will be contacted by a staff member to set up an initial conference via phone or Google Meet. If you have questions, please email an administrator, and he/she will be happy to assist you.
I want to thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this together. Please, if you haven't already, make sure to sign up for Evans text alerts and newsletters (requires a new sign-up each school year) so we can push out any updates to you as soon as we have them. Of course, all information can be found at anytime our Evans Website.
We can't wait to meet our newest Cougars!
Ms. Vera Perry-Harris, Principal

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
All CCSS students will be supported through virtual learning from August 13-September 4 with the hope of returning to face to face instruction in some form after Labor Day. Health data will be reassessed the last week of August to determine if safe for students to return.
Do I need to register for Empower to start the year?
Only if you are planning to keep your child in the virtual setting when others return to a face to face model.
Where can I register for Empower?
There is a link on the Evans and district websites or you can register HERE through Friday, August 7th.
If I have registered for Empower can I take my student out?
Yes, please complete this form if you wish to remove your student from the Empower Online Program no later than August 7th.
Will my child receive a Chromebook?
Yes, our technology department is working with schools to deliver Chromebooks for student pickup. Student pickup at Evans will be scheduled by grade August 10th and 11th if there is a Chromebook to be picked up. Evans Middle will notify parents if their child has a Chromebook to be picked up.
What if my child's Chromebook needs to be repaired?
DO NOT take the Chromebook to Werz. Call the school (770-254-2780) to set up a time to drop off at Evans to be sent off for repair. Once the Chromebook is repaired, we will call the parent to schedule a time to pick up.
Will my students receive textbooks and other classroom materials?
Yes (as applicable)
How will I get these materials?
We will let you know a date as soon as possible.
When will I know my child’s teacher and class schedule?
Schools are finalizing schedules and will release the information over the next two weeks (after Empower enrollment has been completed).
What do I do if I don’t have Internet access?
Please reach out to your child’s school to share your needs by completing this form. (Our district has purchased WiFi hot spots.)
Will there still be athletics and/or extracurricular activities?
Currently, athletics and all middle school extracurricular activities have been postponed.
