Fall Newsletter
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Les Bois Parents,
As the school year enters the Fall, we want to thank you for the opportunity to work with your students. The first month of school has been terrific and it has been great to see our tremendous faculty and staff working with the kids. We appreciate your efforts to get your students to school on time, prepared to learn, and encouraging them to participate in the many activities and programs at our school. Supporting your children in their academic and extra-curricular activities has a great influence on their overall school experience.
Our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is very busy supporting our students and staff at Les Bois. Your help is always needed. Please look for opportunities to volunteer and assist our students through the PTO. They have been very generous in their overall support of our school.
We have had a great start to the school year. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or anyone at the school. I am committed to making sure all of our students have a good experience this year. I live in this community and want our schools to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students. This is a great school and I am proud to be part of the staff here at Les Bois.
We look forward to seeing and meeting many of you at school events throughout the year. Please say hello and introduce yourself. Thank you for making Les Bois an excellent place for kids.

Attendance Policy
Students are allowed nine absences per semester. A letter is mailed home on the 5th, 8th and 10th absence. Once a student exceeds nine absences, they will not earn credit unless a letter of appeal is submitted and approved. The same applies if a student earns more than six tardies in a class. Students will be notified in the event they are nearing nine absences or six tardies in any given class. If you have questions please contact Assistant Principal, Cherise Longoria.

Notes From The Nurse
Colds, Flu and Fever, What to Do?
Few of us make it through the year without catching a cold, having a fever or the flu.
Here are some general rules to follow when trying to decide if your child is too sick to come to school:
Fever: Your child should stay home if he/she has a fever over 100 degrees and /or is experiencing discomfort that would interfere with his/her ability to participate at school.
Colds: you may choose to send cold medication to school if your child is experiencing uncontrollable coughing or congestion. State Law requires that this medication always be kept in the Nurses Office. Please send a note stating when this medication should be given to your child.
Flu: Influenza, or the flu, is a virus that causes high fevers, body aches and chills, fatigue and a severe dry cough that can last for days to weeks. Annual flu shots can help prevent influenza.
Nausea/Vomiting/other GI upsets: If your child vomits in the morning, it is likely that they will feel ill at school and we will have to call you to pick up your child. A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
General Guidelines: washing hands before touching your eyes, nose and mouth and before eating can help prevent the spread of illness. Make sure that your child gets enough sleep, eats balanced meals and exercising regularly can help your child fight illnesses.
Lets all try to stay healthy!

District Expands Google Apps for Education to Include 7th & 8th Grade Students
Beginning October 3rd, 2016, the Boise School District is expanding the use of Google Apps for Education Accounts (GAFE) by providing email access to 7th and 8th grade students.
Currently, only students in grades 9-12 have email access in their student accounts. K-8 students currently have access to Google Drive, Calendar and Classroom. Allowing students in grades 7 and 8 a District Gmail account will enhance security and safety for both children and staff.
Click here for further information about Boise School District’s GAFE Practice and to review an FAQ for students and parents.
Student participation in this program is encouraged. If you do not want a Boise School District Gmail account activated for your student, please fill out the Boise School District GMAIL Opt Out Form for Students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the your student’s school principal.

Les Bois PTO
Hello and greeting from your Les Bois PTO!
Les Bois PTO held its first meeting last week. We were able to pass our budget and approve funds for multiple teachers all in less than 45 minutes! We were happy to see a good turnout of old and new parents.
Les Bois will be having our next Jr. High Dance on Friday, Oct 28th from 6 - 8 pm. Our first dance was a great success with the much appreciated efforts of Mrs. Ewing and her student council team. We thank you!! The only glitch that we came across was that there were very few snacks brought for the dance for a lot of hungry teenagers. We need parents to chaperone but also bring snacks and refreshments for the students to make this dance a complete success. If we do not have enough snacks, we may cancel snacks all together and only have food available for purchase. I would love your feedback on this matter. I have provided a link to the sign up genius below for all the dances for your convenience. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48a4aa2fa6fe3-school
Concessions is the main source of money for our school PTO. We are needing more parent volunteers to help. By helping out we avoid those pesky all school fundraisers that sell cookie dough or wrapping paper. Please sign up and help out. Below you will find the link.

By all your efforts we are able to make this a great year and help provide our school with the tools to help our students.
If you are not on the PTO volunteer list and would like to be, please email me at your earliest convenience.
GO BLAZERS!

NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH WEEK!
National School Lunch Week is October 10-14, 2016. The theme, ‘Show Your Spirit’ is all about getting parents, students and school officials to show their school spirit for school lunch.
During National School Lunch week, we will highlight our healthy menus and provide an exciting opportunity for students and school staff to try the following new menu items:
· Tuesday: Pepperoni Calzone
· Wednesday: Carnitas Street Tacos with Spicy Slaw
The school lunches at Boise Schools are healthier than ever, with more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium. Students in all our schools have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables on the lunch line. In addition, Jr. High School students have the option of choosing colorful fruits and vegetables from the fresh salad bar, offered daily. So get enthused and ‘Show Your Spirit’ for school lunch!
