Dear Hooker Oak Families~

There have been several changes happening rapidly over the last few weeks, and we greatly appreciate your input and flexibility as we continue to move forward and plan for the next steps this school year.

I could not be more proud of our Hooker Oak team for continuing to provide high-levels of instruction for our students despite the changes that continue to come. Our team is currently working on planning schedules to accommodate the various needs of our students and families. As you know, the district sent out a registration confirmation on Friday, with three options.

There are still some details being worked out that are dependent on receiving your re-registration information. Here is a brief overview of your choices:

1- In person instruction at Hooker Oak:

• Students will be on a modified schedule and on either an am or pm track.

• Instructional time will be in 2-hour blocks. Students will assigned additional asynchronous work to be completed during the time they are not being instructed.

• The time frames for in-person instruction will be 8:10-10:10 (AM) and 12:10-2:10 (PM).

• Some teachers may be offering a hybrid, with one group in person and one group online. In those cases, there will not be a class split as all in-person students would come on campus during the in-person block and the online students would zoom during the online block.

• We are unable to accommodate requests for AM or PM at this time.

2- Hooker Oak Online Option:

• Goal is to minimize transitions for students and keep students connected to their teacher

• There is a possibility that students may need to be placed with a different teacher

• The model that is used for the online option may differ between teachers/grade levels

3- Opt to attend Oak Bridge

• Enroll at Oak Bridge

I also want to make sure that families understand that once our county moves into the Orange tier and CUSD shifts to Stage 3 of the Reopening Plan, we will not be able to accommodate an online option at Hooker Oak school. Because all students will be attending all day, our teachers will not have the time to provide both in-person and online instruction. When that time comes, families who are not comfortable returning in-person will need to enroll at Oak Bridge.

This is my fourteenth year working at Hooker Oak School and every morning when I arrive I feel so fortunate to work at such a wonderful school with great kids and coworkers! I grew up in Lake Tahoe, and moved to Chico in 1980 to attend Chico State. I loved Chico so much that I stayed and raised my own family here. I have two grown children, Rachel and Jordan and a super cute little dog named Poppy. When I’m not working I love riding my Harley (usually up to the mountains where I like to take my camera) Poppy and I like to go hiking and kayaking too. My other fun hobby is painting owls using watercolors!
