The Wellwood Globe
Wellwood International November 2019
From the Principal's Desk
Happy Fall Greetings!
During this time of year, many of us find time to pause and reflect upon the people that make our lives special. There are so many wonderful things happening at Wellwood, and I am appreciative to be able to work with Wellwood's students, staff members and families throughout the year. Wellwood's students are always wondering and wanting to know more. This desire to learn comes from supportive families and outstanding teachers. In just a few days, we will be celebrating American Education Week. I hope that you will find some time to join us so that you are able to engage and observe the learning taking place at Wellwood.

International Studies
It is an exciting time here at Wellwood! Plans are underway for our IB Authorization Visit on December 9-10, 2019. In order to become a fully certified IB school, all candidate schools undergo an authorization visit to evaluate their current programming. During our two day visit, two members of the International Baccalaureate Educator Network will visit Wellwood to see our IB programming and identify how we have brought the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program to life here at Wellwood. This will be a very exciting time here at Wellwood and we look forward to hosting a wonderful visit to share the incredible things that are happening here at our school!
Elementary report cards will be distributed on November 21, 2019 and the following day, Friday, November 22, 2019, is elementary conference day. Families are invited and encouraged to schedule a conference with their child’s teacher on November 22nd to discuss progress and growth. As an IB Candidate School, our students take a leading role in their conferences as we work towards student-led conferences. Students in grades 1-5 are expected to attend their scheduled conference as the students will be the facilitators of the conference to discuss their learning throughout the previous quarter. This is a shift in how conferences have been done before and teachers are actively working with students to reflect and prepare their thoughts ahead of the conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to be leaders in their learning and use their voice to identify strengths and areas for growth as we continue the 2019-20 school year. I look forward to seeing many students on November 22, 2019 leading their conferences!
As always, if you have any questions about our IB PYP programming at Wellwood do not hesitate to reach out!
