PSAT 8/9 Test is October 12th

On Wednesday, October 12th, we will be administering the PSAT 8/9 to all 8th graders at McCullough. This is not a test that is required by the state and will not have any impact on their advancement to high school. The PSAT 8/9 is a good indicator of how students will perform on the SAT in high school and is what our district uses to predict college readiness. You can find information about the PSAT 8/9 here: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9

While 8th graders are taking the PSAT 8/9, 7th graders will complete several academic activities as well as attend a general assembly led by administration. Students may bring a book to read once all activities are complete.

The schedule for the day is as follows.

8:50 - 1:36 PSAT 8/9 Testing for 8th Graders/Academic activities for 7th graders.

  • 11:22 - 11:52 A Lunch - 7th graders with last names A-K

  • 12:28 - 12:58 C Lunch - 8th graders with last names A-K
  • 1:00 - 1:30 D Lunch - 8th graders with last names L-Z

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXTRA HELP

Morning Tutoring

Students should check with their classroom teacher for tutorial location and availability per subject. Morning tutorials begin at 8:05 a.m.

Advisory Expectations and Procedures

Advisory is a time for students to study, read, receive tutoring, or practice in a fine arts setting.

Unless there is a special event, students will attend their assigned advisory on Mondays or the first day of the week if Monday is a holiday. The rest of the week depends on whether it is a Red Day or a Green Day.

On Red Days, students may be pulled from their regular advisory to work in a fine arts setting such as band, orchestra, choir, or art.

On Green Days students may be pulled from their regular advisory to receive extra help academically.

Students may sign up with their classroom teacher to receive extra help during advisory or their classroom teacher may request that they come to their classroom for extra help.

SPARKS Peer Tutoring During Advisory

Beginning October 19th, McCullough students will have the opportunity to seek help from a S.P.A.R.K. Peer Tutor on the first green day of the week (excluding Mondays) during advisory. S.P.A.R.K stands for Supportive Peers as Resources of Knowledge. They consist of carefully chosen 8th grade students who provide encouragement, motivation and support for other McCullough students who need assistance in completing homework assignments, studying for tests, learning basic study or organizational skills, and developing better time management skills. The program began over 10 years ago at McCullough and has returned after a brief hiatus during COVID. The sponsors, Jarrett Sutter and Donna Meyer, are thrilled to bring it back into existence and are dedicated to providing help to students who may otherwise not be able to get tutoring due to commitments before and after school.

PAWS After-School Tutoring Begins Tuesday, Sept. 6

What: An after-school study hall where students can have time specifically set aside to complete their homework or get help in different subjects. We will have McCullough teachers available to help.

Where: PAWS is held after school in the downstairs library.

When: Monday-Wednesday from 4:10-5:00 beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022.

What should I bring? Come prepared with homework and any supplies you might need. Be sure you have enough to work on until 5:00. Students will not be dismissed early from PAWS and must remain in the library the entire time.

How do I get home? A parent or guardian must pick you up at 5:00 p.m. at the front of the building when PAWS is over. There is no late bus. All students from PAWS will leave together and go to the covered horseshoe at the front of the building to wait for their ride.
