What is Brooklyn Buzz?
Arrival Procedures
Ms. Smith (assistant principal) and myself are new and we are trying to find best ways for students to be successful from the moment they arrive.
Students need to be at school by 8:00 am. If you arrive after that and the doors are closed, please report to the gold lot and enter through the double doors.
Arrival: (Begins at 7:30)
When students arrive, we have identified different locations for students to sit. All students have the option to eat breakfast.
Once breakfast is complete, students in grades...
- Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade go to designated areas in the field house.
- 3rd & 5th grades sit at the tables labeled with their homeroom names in the front of the cafeteria.
- 4th grade sits in the back of the cafeteria at table with homeroom.
- 6th and 7th go to the High School Cafeteria.
Parents in vehicles arriving in the blue lot,
- Use the whole street by school sidewalk and have students walk on the sidewalk to the school, this will help us with drop offs.
- If you are walking your child from the parking lot or another street, please use the cross walks.
- We want to ensure the safety of all our families.
- I also ask that you stop at the stop signs on campus and keep an extra eye out for our children.
- If your child has excited your car and you are pulling away/around other vehicles, please be cautious and courteous to families parked or in line and watch out for children.
Parents are not able to enter the school with their child, this a safety concern. If you want to ask the administrators a question, please enter through the gold lot doors and report to the office or if you see us outside, feel free to ask us then.
Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal:
This is another busy time in our day and we want make sure all our kids are arriving safely.
Parents are not able to enter the school with their child, this a safety concern. If you want to ask the administrators a question, please enter through the gold lot doors and report to the office or if you see us outside, feel free to ask us then, or email/call us.
Loading and unloading children on the curb side is a good safety tip.
3 Lots - Blue, Gold & White
Procedures for each lot:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blue Lot:
Typically kids (k-3 with no older siblings).
Grades K - 3 ~ BLUE LOT drop off and pick up
If your oldest child is in grades K-3, use the BLUE LOT off of Behrwald Avenue to drop off and pick up all children in your family.
- Please understand we can only dismiss kids so quickly and we are trying our hardest. Please don't crowd the door and continue to be patient. Dismissal isn't until 3:11 so we won't get started right at 3:11.
- If you are parking your car and walking up to the school or coming from a street, please use the cross walks.
- If you are picking your child up in a vehicle, lets try to utilize the whole sidewalk, once your name has been collected, pull forward, we will send them out to you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
White Lot: (PK students at 3:20 by families) (Families with students in older grades)
- If your oldest child is in grades 8-12, use the WHITE LOT in the back of the HS to drop off and pick up all children in your family.
>>>>>NEW>>>>>
Grades 4 -7 - walking towards Behrwald - see attached map.
- Walk on the side walk towards the blue lot and then walk out to Behrwald via the sidewalk by the playground. Using all cross walks.
- If you have a younger sibling you can pick them up and walk with them out the white lot doors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gold Lot:
Grades 4-7 ~ GOLD LOT drop off an pick up
If your oldest child is in grades 4-7, use the GOLD LOT at the main entrance of the PK-7 building to drop off and pick up all children in your family.
- This lot is where our loving cup bus will pick students up at. We will have signs for that bus, please don't block that spot.
- Students walking home via Biddulph can exit out this door, using the cross walks - see attached map.
- Older students (4th - 7th grade) will meet their younger student in the hallway near the office.
- For safety reasons we are not going to let younger children just walk out. Please be patient and understanding we want all our kids to locate their families quickly and with little hassle.
- If you have an older child absent and your younger child is here, we have procedures in place to ensure safety. We can't just let them walk out. Report to the office or ask the monitor at the door.
If you have any solutions, please feel free to email me or call to discuss.
RISE up in Brooklyn School - INTEGRITY
Shout out to 2nd and 4th grade, they had 91% of their kids still had their candy. Talk with your kids about ways you show integrity at work and home.
I have included our expectations for you to have a copy at home. Please click on this link.
Each month we will pick a focus and share in the weekly newsletters about what that looks like in the school.
RISE
Responsibility
Integrity
Safety
Empathy
Buddy Groups
For our 1st activity, students and staff completed a booklet to learn about their buddies. Students did an excellent job working together. They were responsible and very kind to one another. I hope to post some pictures on twitter. It was awesome to walk to all the rooms and hear the younger kids sharing, the older kids encouraging and helping them. Our goal is to create a community that embraces everyone and develops a sense of belonging and this will extend into the community as well and instilling Brooklyn pride.
At Brooklyn School, we RISE up to being role models and kind friends.
