MPES Connection
January 29, 2021
Message from Mrs. Mamon
Thank you to families for your understanding and support as we reorganized classrooms for the second semester. Our goal is to maximize the teaching and learning opportunities for all students in both the virtual and hybrid environments. This reorganization meant that some students were assigned to a different teacher for the second semester. If your student will be changing teachers for the second semester, you were notified in an email on Monday, January 25, of the new teacher assignment.
- New teacher/classroom assignments will begin on Tuesday, February 2 (the first day of the second semester).
- If your student will have a new teacher for the second semester, his/her new teacher will contact you in an email on Monday, February 1, to welcome you and your student and provide information about the new class.
- If your student will have a new teacher on Tuesday, February 2, have him/her follow these steps to join the new class:
- At 8:15 a.m., turn on and log in to the Chromebook.
- Log into Canvas (It will be the first screen you see!)
- Click on your new teacher's HOMEROOM class.
- Look for the ANNOUNCEMENT at the top of the screen.
- Click on the link to join the teacher's ZOOM meeting.
- Be ready to meet your class at 8:30 a.m.!
All of our teachers and staff members at MPES are outstanding! I am confident that every student will continue to learn and grow this school year no matter what classroom he/she is in. Our teachers are working closely together to ensure that transitions are as smooth as they can be for every student and family.
Other Important Notes:
- Monday, February 1, is a Teacher Workday/Professional Development day. There will be no school for students.
- In February, our English Language Learners will be taking the WIDA ACCESS test. Please watch the videos below in the newsletter for details. There will be an important parent meeting on Wednesday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m. on Zoom. The link to the meeting will be sent out in an email.
- A new month means a new family STEM challenge! See below for details. How creative can you be with a cereal box?
Don't forget to send pictures of our students learning at home! I love seeing and sharing them in my weekly newsletters. Snap a picture and send it to me at stacey.mamon@mpark.net.
Sincerely,
Stacey Mamon
Principal
On Monday, January 11, the Manassas Park City School Board voted to delay the rollout to a hybrid model of teaching and learning. They will be reassessing the conditions and will discuss the matter at the next regularly-scheduled Board work session on Monday, February 1. If conditions are favorable for a return to an in-person, hybrid model, new reopening dates will be proposed.
Thank you to everyone for participating in the Great Kindness Challenge and Spirit Week!
