Taylor's News!
This week in Math and Science/Social Studies:
A note from Mrs. Taylor - Thank you all for such a generous class Christmas gift. I was able to find some really fun treasures at Hobby Lobby for my home over the break and gather some fabrics for my upcoming sewing projects! :) I also really enjoyed all the baked treats but now it's time to run them all off! Happy New Year!
Math– We will dive right in to fractions and decimals with a focus on problem solving and spend some time reviewing for our middle of year district math assessment on Jan. 13th and 14th.
Science – We will wrap up our Properties Matter Unit of study this week with our performance assessment.
Stern's News!
A note from Mrs. Stern: I was so disappointed to miss out on the party on Friday. Thank you so much for your thoughtful gifts and kind wishes. Once I was feeling better my husband and I enjoyed a couple movies at the movie house and eatery and some wonderful dinners. It was a relaxing break, but I'm ready to get back to working with your children.
READING: We are finishing a fantasy unit. Students should have completed reading their fantasy book and should be working on the book report outline and project that is due on Friday, January 17th. The yellow report packet went home the first week of December. If it is lost, another copy can be found on Mrs. Stern's website. Students are only required to turn in the yellow packet and project for the grade, they can receive extra credit if they choose to put their presentation into a more formal format, ie. Written/Typed Book Report, Power Point, or other Multi-Media Presentation. We will have our mid year Reading Benchmark on Friday.
WRITING: Students have completed and turned in their expository texts for a grade. Feedback will come home, but the original will be kept in our portfolios for possible use on our midyear Writing Benchmark this week. Our grammar focus this week will be using descriptive adjectives. We will be working on word choice, focus, and organization of our writing. We will be writing some imaginative text this week with an emphasis on fantasy.
SPELLING: This week's spelling words come from Unit 16. Our spelling concept this week will be homophones and the suffixes: -er, -or, -ar meaning one who. Pace students will review commonly misspelled words based on similarity, ie. picture/pitcher. Spelling words for the week will be recorded by students in the far right column of the week's agenda. Pace Language Arts students will have an extra 8 words per week. Any students wishing to include the pace words into their spelling test may do so.
