Complete Your ROCORI Survey
Dear ROCORI Families:
Starting May 1, you will be given the opportunity to participate in a district wide survey to gather information on how we are doing and about how we as a district should move forward for our students and community in the future. The last time we did a survey like this was 2007 and with the 2020 road map nearing its end it is perfect timing to do this work. The survey is expected to take approximately ten minutes to complete.
The ROCORI School District is reaching out to all District residents, parents, staff, and students (grades 4-12) in the next few weeks to gather information around four broad categories: educational priorities, financial/facility priorities, communications, and overall satisfaction of ROCORI Schools. We have hired School Perceptions, an independent educational research firm, to conduct the survey and ensure all responses are kept confidential. ROCORI Schools is interested in continuing to build trust with our stakeholders. Having a firm do the survey builds that trust and credibility in the results.
Our goal is to have as many unique responses as possible. Once you receive the survey link via an email to ensure data integrity, each survey invitation/link code can only be used once. As such, you must access the survey through your email invitation, not a forwarded email or link. The survey access number will not identify you; it simply links you to the District's survey.
However, the software can track survey completion via the link code and encourages participation of non-respondents. You may get a reminder email from School Perceptions to complete the survey as a follow up to the original invitation after a week or two has gone by. School Perceptions’ privacy policy guarantees your email address will not be used/shared for any purpose other than the contracted survey.
Question: How will my spouse/partner/significant other/other adults (ie. college student) not currently in ROCORISchools but lives in the ROCORI community get to complete the survey if they choose? Community members will get a unique access code through an insert in the Community Education brochure out in mailboxes on May 1st. The district will also be given additional access codes that can be requested from the district office to use to complete additional surveys. We know that some people do not have access to the internet at home. Paper copies can be requested through the district office. Paper copies can be picked up or mailed out. We will be working with our seniors and non-English speaking community members to hear their voice.
Here is an example to explain the last two paragraphs:
Example: Brad Kelvington will get a link emailed to him as an employee/parent of ROCORISchools. Taunja Kelvington (spouse/community member) will access the website printed in the Community Education brochure and enter the code printed on that same Community Education brochure insert. Haley Kelvington (college student living with us) will request an access code by calling the district office at 320-685-4901. Haley will be directed to the same website as Taunja and enter her unique code. Luke Kelvington (adult not living with us or in one of the ROCORI communities) will not access the survey.
If you do not receive an email invitation to complete the survey, please check your “spam/junk” folder and then contact us for assistance (320-685-4901). If you don’t receive a brochure, please call and ask for one. You may also call us at the number above and request a code or ask questions. School Perceptions is also willing to answer any questions or troubleshoot survey issues. The survey website, once accessed, will give you that contact information. Here is the address to their main web page. http://www.schoolperceptions.com/
Thank you for reading the entire email…We value your feedback and hope the process is a meaningful exercise for you and for us as leaders. If you have questions, please ask.
Thank you for trusting ROCORI Schools with your children.

Help Kids Balance Their Media Lives
From phones and tablets to streaming movies and YouTube, tech and media are everywhere. Kids love the easy access to shows, games, and information. Parents and caregivers love that kids can learn on the go (and stay busy when dinner's cooking). But it's easy to overdo it when the phone never stops pinging and the next episode plays automatically. Families can keep media and tech use in check by following a few simple practices.

Cold Spring Area Soccer Club Returns
This Month's Principal Book Club is FEATURING!
RESTART by Gordan Korman
Chase doesn't remember falling off the roof. He doesn't remember hitting his head. He doesn't, in fact, remember anything. He wakes up in a hospital room and suddenly has to learn his whole life all over again . . . starting with his own name.
He knows he's Chase. But who is Chase? When he gets back to school, he sees that different kids have very different reactions to his return.
Some kids treat him like a hero. Some kids are clearly afraid of him.
One girl, in particular, is so angry with him that she pours her frozen yogurt on his head the first chance she gets.
Pretty soon, it's not only a question of who Chase is--it's a question of who he was . . . and who he's going to be.
