Room 406
Mrs. Hall's 3rd Grade 2016-2017
November has totally rocked. :) Room 406 is such an awesome place to be. Our routines are firmly cemented, we have made tight friendships, and our work ethic is through the roof. 3rd grade is having the BEST YEAR EVER!
I can't wait to meet with all of you next week during conferences!
Don't forget to check out the Shutterfly site! It's so cool to see your kids in action! (link above)
Leader in Me
Reading
The At-Home reading logs should be completed by your child. :) They set an at-home reading goal this week. By taking ownership of their reading log, this will help them be more accountable.
Math
Our week started out with reflecting on our Unit 1 assessment. I was so impressed! The students looked at 4 different areas of their math test and had to decide where they stood on those concepts. They rated themselves using smiley faces. (I will share this info at conferences)
For the rest of the week we used arrays to solve for multiplication. We made some huge strides in understanding multiplication this week. We now have a few strategies we can use besides arrays. Loops & Groups, Repeated Addition, and Counting Up are some names that we've created. Be sure to ask your child to model "5 x 6" for you. We read this as "5 groups of 6". :)
How you can help at home:
1) Continue with addition and subtraction facts. These facts REALLY help us during our multiplication and division unit!
2) Notice arrays in the real world. Brick pavers, windows, lay out the Halloween candy in rows and columns...etc.
3) Talk about math! :)
