Heritage Primary Eblast
FEBRUARY 2019
Principal's Message
Dear Heritage Families,
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone in our Heritage Community for making me feel so warm and welcome during my first month. The students have showered me with hugs, showed me around when I have been lost and greeted me cheerfully each day. I can’t wait to see what next month will bring as I continue to get to know your children even more.
During the month of February, we will be focusing on our character word of “Respect” with our students. Under this character word, we will concentrate on kindness. We would love to invite you to join us in our week-long celebration of kindness by participating in the Random Act of Kindness Week, which is February 18-22. During this week please encourage your child to engage in a kind act. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Write down someone’s best qualities
Have a free lemonade stand
Make a handmade card or picture for someone
Make cookies for a neighbor
Leave a surprise in your mailbox for your mail carrier
Cook a meal together
Have a good belly laugh together
Performing these Random Acts of Kindness can be so rewarding and fun too! I can’t wait to hear about all of the amazing things you and your children do together this month!
Have fun spreading love,
Mrs. Sutton

KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE
We are asking for your help as you drive your child to school. We want ALL of our children to arrive to school and home safely.
*Drive Smart
*Slow down and be alert in our Heritage neighborhood and school zones.
*Take extra time to look for kids at intersections and on curbs.
*Enter and exit driveways, roadways and intersections slowly and carefully.
*Watch for children on or near roads in the morning and after schools hours.
*Reduce distractions inside your car to concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
*Stop behind the white line at crosswalks.
* Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding up a stop sign.
For Those Walking/Biking to School
*Make sure your child has a safe route before allowing him or her to walk to school.
*Make sure sidewalks are clear of snow, if riding a bike.
*Ride your bike on the sidewalk, not in the street.
*Always cross at a crosswalk.
*Walk, don’t run, across the street.
*Make sure drivers see you before crossing in front of them.

COACHES CORNER
We are working on shoe tying in PE!! The students can earn a charm for their book bags and a spot on our Shoe Tie Wall of fame in the gym! Please feel free to use the method you are comfortable with, but we use the following method, which has been very successful for all of our kiddos!
ALSO, Please remember to have your children wear proper shoes for PE! We love tennis shoes, which are the safest for all of our activities... If your child comes to PE without the proper shoes they will not be able to participate in the day's activities and will be given an alternate assignment.
Thanks so much for all of your help and support!

Visitor Cafe Guidelines
Parents and family members are welcome to visit their child at school during their lunch time. We do have limited space since we have a large population of students and ask to keep your group to a minimum when visiting. While you are visiting, please follow our HPE Visitor Cafe' Guidelines:
- You must have a visitor's badge issued prior to meeting your child in the cafe'.
- Only one friend is allowed to eat with your child in the commons area per visit.
- You may only bring food for your student. Please do not share with friends.
- Students need to return to the classroom when their classroom lunch period is over.
- All siblings are asked to remain seated and supervised at all times.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide a safe and special opportunity to visit with our child. If these guidelines are not abided by, these privileges may be revoked at any time.
