Newsletter Term 2 Week 6
St Patrick's School Masterton 7th June 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Pope Francis whilst celebrating Pentecost Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica said the Bible, especially the Acts of the Apostles, makes it clear that the Holy Spirit brings a real power to change individuals and the Church.
“The Spirit frees hearts chained by fear. To those content with half measures he inspires whole-hearted generosity. He opens hearts that are closed. He impels the comfortable to go out and serve, He drives the self-satisfied to set out in new directions. He makes the lukewarm thrill to new dreams. That is what it means to change hearts.
People often vow to change, but lack the power to do so.
The power of the Holy Spirit is different. It does not revolutionize life around us, but changes our hearts. It does not free us from the weight of our problems, but liberates us within so that we can face them. The change occurs because the Holy Spirit brings God’s forgiveness. From guilty he makes us righteous and thus changes everything. By the working of the Holy Spirit, joy is reborn and peace blossoms in our hearts.
This morning, we welcomed a number of students into our school community. This was our first powhiri of the year, due to Covid restrictions, and it was fantastic to again be able to see our students step up and show our new families this welcome. Thank you to everyone for their support at the powhiri, it was a wonderful way to start the new term.
On Monday afternoon, the 13th of June, all teaching staff will be attending an NZEI Paid Union Meeting. Due to this, the normal school day will be finishing at 1.10pm. If you are able we would appreciate you collecting your child at this time. If you are not able we will be providing supervision, here at school, for your child to be looked after until the normal finishing time of 3 pm. Thank you for your support.

Gospel of the Week
John 20:19-23
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 It was late that Sunday evening, and the disciples were gathered together behind locked doors, because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities. Then Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 20 After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.” 22 Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive people's sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Further detail for parents/ caregivers - People have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the well being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. Parent/ Teacher Hui 2022
Tuesday 28th June & Wednesday 6th July: 1.30 - 6.30pm
As we move towards the mid-point of the year we have decided to hold meetings/ hui for all children and their whanau. Due to recent Covid restrictions, this has been something we have not been able to do as often as we would have liked, so we felt this is a great opportunity to start this up again.
Bookings can be made for meetings/ hui in weeks 9 & 10 of this term. These will take place on Tuesday 28th June and Wednesday 6th July, running from 1.30pm to 6.30pm on both days. On this day the normal school timetable will not be running in the afternoon, so if you are able we would appreciate you collecting your child at 1.00pm. If you are not able we will be providing supervision, here at school, for your child to be looked after until the normal finishing time of 3pm.
New School Mural
A message from Katie Gracie
They say it takes a village…. This mural took a village!
The latest mural at St Patrick’s School is finally finished and it looks superb! From the staff and children who drilled these bottle tops in, to the families that saved their bottle tops for us (and Michelle who sourced the bulk of it) thank you.
A special thank you also to Krystal who put in many hours to fill those gaps - you are amazing! And also thank you to Penny for the many brave moments our hands were in close proximity to a working drill.
