Principal Message
Congratulations to our students and families on an amazing Panda Pacer!!! As of my last morning announcement check, families had raised over $20,000.00 for the PTA. Our students are extremely fortunate to have such a caring community willing to support our educational programming.
The first quarter of school is almost in the books! Students have worked hard at developing both their foundational skills as they review content as well as critical thinking skills when faced with new learning. Students are using our Lexia and iReady programs to support areas of reading and math. It has been so great to see them meet or exceed their goals. We are looking forward to our Q1 PRIDE awards.
As we prepare for quarter two, we are looking to increase expectations in all grades. We will begin to have conversations with students about goal setting, what they wish to be more focused on, or better at. This is a great way to discuss strengths and areas of growth.
There are a few key dates for you to know so please review the “Upcoming Important Dates” section of the newsletter!
Yours in education,
John Ridenour, Jr.

ELA News from Ms. Krauss
Kindergarten- Third Grade Parents:
Last week families of Kindergarten through Third grade received a report of your child’s performance on the beginning of the year DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills ) assessment. The purpose of this screening tool is to assess your child’s early literacy skills and will be given again in the winter and spring. Along with scores, each report shared individualized activities you could do at home. For additional activities families can visit https://www.mclass.amplify.com/homeconnect/.
Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Attendance Information
Being successful in school begins with being present and available to learn. Attending school regularly also helps children feel better about school and themselves. Families play a critical role in establishing routines so children arrive at school on time and are consistently present.
Here are a few ways you can support your child by establishing positive attendance habits.
- Follow a regular bedtime and morning routine
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks/lunches the night before
- Send your child to school unless they are too sick to attend (fever, vomiting, diarrhea and contagious illness are reasons to stay home from school)
- Talk to school staff if your child appears anxious about going to school
- Develop back up plans in case of a change to your child's transportation
- Schedule appointments and extended trips so they do not interfere with the school day
Information about attendance in FCPS is available at: https://www.fcps.org/student-services/general-info-for-parents
Security and Emergency Management
Every FCPS student will learn in a safe and secure environment. Administrators and their School Emergency Management Teams are trained to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency situations in or near our schools.
The videos below provide valuable information for parents in the event that our school would need to respond to an emergency. When you have a moment, please consider watching these videos on school safety.
