Don't Miss the Last Game at Courville Stadium!
Tonight marks the end of an era.
When the lights are turned off at Kermit Courville Stadium after our undefeated Ball High Tors rally against Northside High School, it will be the last time our stadium sleeps in its original state after a GISD athletic event before renovations begin.
Join us at 7 p.m. tonight for this last competition as we celebrate what our historic stadium has meant for the thousands of students, parents, and community members who have entered its gates throughout the years. We are thankful for the memories and also thankful for what an upgraded stadium will mean for generations to come. GO TORS! Purchase tickets here: https://gofan.co/app/school/TX73119
Please note: The community will have the opportunity to walk on the field once the game concludes.

National Principals Month - One Last Thank You!
Serving as a principal entails so many things. Every day is different, and countless important decisions are made that many of us don't even realize. Their impact is high even while recognition is low, and the differences they make truly last a lifetime.
We are grateful for our principals' dedicated hard work and their daily commitment to the success of our students. Thank you for all that you do!

Magnet Spotlight: Writers of the Month and Rockstar Teachers
Please join us in congratulating these GISD rock stars - our recent Writers of the Month and our outstanding Magnet teachers!
About Writers of the Month: As part of our Academic Programs for Equity and eXcellence (APEX), the four magnet campuses (Burnet, Crenshaw, Morgan, and Oppe) utilize the Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) approach to teaching writing. Through consistent, deliberate use of these strategies, teachers have seen increased independence in their students, as well as improved literacy skills.
Read more below about our Outstanding Magnet teachers and what sets them apart.
We will continue recognizing these outstanding individuals monthly. Keep an eye out!

See flyer below for additional information.

JROTC to host Turkey Shoot Fundraiser Nov. 17
Support JROTC's biggest fundraiser of the year by attending this event!
How does it work? For every $5 ticket purchased, participants will receive three air rifle pellet shots at a paper turkey, just like a carnival game. The participant with the highest score every 30 minutes will receive a frozen turkey in a Home Depot iced bucket.
Please note: These air rifles are quiet, safe, and Cadet Safety Officers will be present to assist. Students are allowed to participate but only after the conclusion of the school day. IDs must be presented to enter the campus. Visitors will be escorted by cadets. Coffee and assorted goodies will be available for participants. See you there!
For more information, see the flyer below or contact Major Mark Knight, Ball High School JROTC Senior Army Instructor, at (409) 766-5846.
Special thanks to Arlan’s Market for donating more than 20 Frozen Butterball Turkeys to help make this event a success.

Oppe Elementary Magnet Campus of Coastal Studies
"We celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Here is one of our kindergarten two-way dual language classes in front of our display. We cleaned the beach at 45th street. Oppe is the official custodian of that section of beach. We do "The Texas Beach Cleanup" twice a year. We also celebrated having two teachers picked as “Best Tutor” and 2nd place for “Best Teacher” in the Galveston Daily News Reader’s Choice contest. Karen Jobe received "Best Tutor" recognition and Janet Mack was named "Best Teacher."
"We are also excited to share that we have been partnering with Artist Boat to design and build a ¼-acre demonstration WaterSmart NativeScape area of coastal prairie and wetland plant communities right here at Oppe! This coastal native habitat will feature a sand dune, shaded plant garden, pollinator garden, pocket prairie, shrub region, rainwater retention garden, creek bed, and freshwater pond. Each component will demonstrate the important role it plays in an ecosystem, while also mitigating pollution from stormwater runoff into the bay and gulf. Oppe families, staff, and students have all been working hard with Artist Boat’s Eco-Art Educator, Channing Green, during Saturday adult workdays and “garden days” when the students are going to STEM class with Ms. Levy."
Way to go Oppe team! Keep up the great work!

Weis Middle School
"Weis Family Night was a huge success. We had 130 students plus their families attend. Our Weis Owl Theatre Ensemble put on a great performance as did our music class. The art gallery showcasing the student artwork from art class and the marble rollercoasters students created in STEM lab were spectacular. We had a book reading from a local author, parade, coloring contest, lotteria, paper flower making, photobooth and nachos! It was also a great celebration as we learned about Hispanic culture and celebrated Hispanic heritage month.
Thank you to all the families that came out. We loved seeing your smiling faces. We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next family night in December!"
