Principal's Message

January was a COLD month, and it looks like February won't be much warmer! On days where it's warm enough outside it is so much fun to watch the students pulling each other around on the sleds. On Indoor Recess days seeing the students walk laps of the hallways with smiles on their faces is great too. I have been so impressed by everyone's attitudes as we "go with the flow" of the changing weather.

I Love to Read Month has officially begun at Elmdale School! Boston Pizza stopped by with their mascot Lionel to deliver a $500 donation for purchasing books for the school! Thank you! Also at our kick off assembly Mrs. Reimer read her favourite book "You are Special" and we had a whole-school silent reading time. What a special event to be a part of! We hope you do lots of reading throughout the month! We're looking forward to some guest readers coming this month as well!

Another exciting thing is the launch of our official Elmdale Instagram account. Follow us at ElmdaleHSD for regular updates from the school. We will continue to also use our Twitter Account @ElmdaleHSD if you prefer that.

Drop off & Pick up

Please take note that parents should not be dropping their kids off in the bus loop. Please remember to park in the family parking zone and walk with your child across the bus loop. This is a high traffic area and we want to ensure the safety of our students.

Alternately, parents can park along Main Street (please do not use business' parking lots for this) and bring their children in the Main Street doors of the school. Please DO NOT drop off your children at the end of the bus loop on Elm Street. This creates a hazardous situation for buses trying to leave the bus loop!

Thanks for your cooperation with this.

Reading Celebration

We had nearly 200 students meet their reading goals over the Christmas Break and bring in their Reading Bingo Sheets. The reward of Milk and Cookies with the Principal was a resounding success!

A huge THANK YOU to Jim from Stoney Brook Creamery for donating the chocolate milk and Holly from Old Church Bakery for donating the cookies for this event. It was a YUMMY way to celebrate meeting our reading goals!

A Note from PAC

Just a reminder that we are no longer doing Subway lunch days. We will now have Little Caesar's Pizza available for sale every Thursday for $2 a slice.

NEW! Online Registration for Kindergarten

Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-20 school year will open on January 7, 2019. The registration process will take place online at HSD.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit our school (after registration has opened), and we will assist you in completing the registration form on a school computer.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible upon the opening of registration, or by mid-February at the latest. Registering early will assist our school in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Early registration also provides parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in upcoming 2019-20 orientation activities.

Children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2019 to be eligible for 2019-20 registration, and are required to attend the school within the catchment area in which they reside.

Please visit the divisional website at HSD.ca for complete details and instructions.
