Center Township Weekly Update
November 22, 2022
Thanksgiving Greetings CT Families
At this Thanksgiving season we would like to take a moment to express how grateful we are to have the opportunity to grow our students with the families and staff at Center Township Elementary School. As administrators we are thankful for students who cheerfully work hard to learn, families who encourage, and teachers who are dedicated and truly care about each child. I am thankful for a PTO who do all they can to make CT a great place to be. Thank you for your help, support, understanding, and friendship. There is no other place we would rather be. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Center Township's Own Thanksgiving Parade
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Zalenchak and Mrs. Sidorchak's classes read Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet. The book tells the story of Tony Sarg whose artistic genius and hard work led to the creation of the character balloons that are the trademark of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The students created their own character balloons styled after the ones they read about in the book and provided a parade throughout the school for everyone to enjoy.
Fishy Friends
We are excited to share that we have some new “friends” living at our school! Our new friends are rainbow trout fingerlings! These fish were purchased for our tank through a Trout in the Classroom partner, Connoquenessing Watershed Alliance made possible by a unique partnership between the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Pennsylvania Trout In the Classroom is an interdisciplinary environmental education program in which students learn about impacts, management, and protection opportunities of Pennsylvania's watersheds and cold water resources, while raising trout in the classroom.
Fifth graders have taken ownership in the care and feeding of their every-growing trout.
Below, the students are demonstrating routine waste removal as well as feeding. The fish are housed in a communal area thanks to fifth grade science teacher, Rob Takacs, so that everyone can watch the fish grow and develop.
CT is Bringing the Harlem Wizards to Butler!!
The world-famous Harlem Wizards will visit Butler Senior High School on Saturday, January 7, 2023 for an evening of great fun and fundraising. Doors will open at 6pm and game time will start promptly at 7pm. The Wizards will play a basketball game against a team of Center Township and other Butler Area School District staff. The event is a fundraiser being held by Center Township PTO and the CT SOAR program. The fundraiser will help raise money for a rock-climbing wall for the Center Township gym.
The energy at a Wizards game is electric. The laughter is infectious. The dunks are rim-rattling, high-flying and awe-inspiring. The hoop artistry, ball-handling, tricks and teamwork are mesmerizing. What really takes it to another level is the hometown participation from the kids on court experiences, to the teachers and other school district staff who take on the Wizards as the "hometown heroes". Besides cheering for their teachers, the kids are involved all night long. They will all have a chance to get on the court.
The experience at a Wizards game is the community and the school coming together for a night of good, pure fun and excitement and it's a fundraiser.
Tickets are priced as follows:
