Words From Our Principal
Dear Parents,
I am really proud of all our students and all their great accomplishments. It’s incredible to think the end of the school year is fast approaching. In five short weeks our 8th graders will be promoting!!! As we approach the end of the semester, it’s important to remind your student to make sure all work is turned in, assignments completed, and to attend our after school and Saturday programs if they need extra help. We want to make sure all students have a successful semester. Our teachers are working diligently with our students to make sure they are well prepared for 8th and 9th grade. Please communicate with your student’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns.

Exploring Arts Music Class
As part of our Exploring Arts Music Class, BVM’s moderate program visited the Museum of Making Music yesterday. Students have been working on learning culturally relevant and traditional music from around the world. This includes how different some instruments are made, relationship between sounds and vibrations, string and percussion instruments, tempo, reading music and playing short pieces. Our trip to the museum was an opportunity to learn hands on how different regions of the world, and different periods of history use different instruments and have different sounds. Students were taught how string instruments like the electric guitar are made, and how they differ from string instruments like the harp. The museum allowed our program to experience a variety of new instruments in their hands-on area.
Staff Professional Development
Student Art Work
Art students researched famous artists (7th graders were assigned renaissance artists and 8th graders were assigned early American artists) in order to write a report, create a biography mini poster, and a commemorative postage stamp design. Hard work, but rewarding knowledge. Designing a “custom” timeline gave students the “Big Picture” of the life and times of their famous artist.
Living Coast Discovery Center School Outreach Program
On April 4th and 5th, the Living Coast Discovery Center came to BVM and provided a fish dissection experience for all of our 7th grade students. Students had the task of exploring the external and internal anatomy of a herring to try and determine its cause of death. The fish dissection was off the hook!

EpiPen and EpiPen Jr Recall
Parents, please be aware that certain Mylan EpiPen and EpiPen Jr Auto-Injector products used for the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions are being voluntarily recalled. The recall is due to the potential that these devices may contain a defective part, which may result in the device’s failure to properly activate. The recalled products were manufactured by Meridian Medical Technologies and were distributed by Mylan Specialty.
The EpiPens that are stored in the nurse’s office have been checked and parents have been notified if their child’s EpiPen falls under the voluntary recall. I have provided a link for parents to use see which EpiPen products have been identified for recall.
Please check the NDC number/Lot Number/Expiration Date to see if any EpiPen/EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors you may have are on the list. There are instructions to follow on the website should one of your EpiPens be on the voluntary recall list.

Counselors Corner
We are finally coming down to the final stretch and final grades are around the corner. Missing homework effects your grades, and when we get to the last few weeks of school teachers will have deadlines so please do NOT request extra credit. We have a few weeks left to complete ALL homework in AEC. Please take advantage of the after school tutoring with the teachers to complete the work. AEC is also voluntary. Those students who qualify for CJSF, the forms are available to all students who want to join. Be sure to go into 403 to pay your dues and complete your forms.
Digital Citizenship
Bonita Vista Middle School does not tolerate bullying of any kind, and this includes cyberbullying.
Merriam Webster defines cyberbullying as “the act of bullying someone through electronic means (as by posting mean or threatening messages about the person online)”
In addition to cyberbullying, digital drama may be a concern as teens begin to use social media and form their online reputations. Digital drama like cyberbullying can have a negative impact on one’s social life. Question: Are you aware of how these issues can impact your daily life, friendships and self-esteem?
I’ve gathered some resources to help you take a closer look at both cyberbullying and digital drama. It’s important to know that you do have choices when presenting yourself online, and when responding to others. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the links below and be better informed about the issues:
