Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills.
From Principal, Dra. Cárdenas
Esteemed RHE Community,
We had a big week of Reading and Language Arts (RLA) Fall Benchmark (FBM) Testing for 3rd and 4th Grade. They have learned the majority of grade level skills already and it is time to check their understanding in a way that will give them the practice they need. The data will help our teachers know which skills need further practice and review to clear up misunderstandings. With still half a year left, our students have ample time to master their grade level skills. Parents, we appreciate your support with ensuring their homework is complete, bringing them to school every day, and making it an expectation to get on iReady lessons at home. These three items will make a significant difference in your child's progress.
In grade levels K - 4th grade, our teachers are testing for the middle-of-year mCLASS and iReady assessments. This source of data tells us at which grade level your child is performing and the specific skills they need more help on. This is how the iReady platform determines which lessons to automatically assign each student, and it helps our teachers determine intervention and enrichment opportunities for every student's need.
In the area of clubs, we had our Student Council Officer elections and a Saturday UIL competition at Pittman Elementary in Raymondville. Chess, Folklórico, Choir, Battle of the Books, Marathon Kids, and Robotics Clubs continue to practice towards their initiatives.
This week, our 3rd-4th graders will take their Math FBM and we will have our first music performance for the school year featuring PreK, Kinder, and 3rd & 4th Grade Choir. We look forward to another productive week of learning and enjoyment.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We'll see you back on Monday, bright and early at school before 8:00am.
At Your Service,
Dra. Betty A. Cárdenas
