Tech News and Monitoring "student" tech use....w/BLOSKI???
A team of teachers and representatives from EdTech-OCIPD and Information Services has been exploring options to replace the discontinued ClassHub program. These in-house experts have identified Blocksi as an effective and efficient replacement.
The annual cost to our school is $2:00 per student per year.
We will be setting up a purchase over the summer.
The subscription for the site would run August 2020 through August 2021.
Blocksi allows teachers to:
- Monitor and view every student's Chromebook screen in the class
- Enforce and manage internet content on every Chromebook
- Block all internet sites by category (e.g. Google Classroom, Khan Academy)
- See every open tab and close the ones deemed irrelevant.
- Send alert messages to the student(s) and open specific URLs on student devices
- View student web browsing history
The application is web-based (no software installation required). Students cannot disable the extension on their accounts.
You can read more about the application here: https://www.blocksi.net/At the tech meeting, it was shared that all sites will need to have it. It is easier than Class Hub in use and K-1 teachers would benefit from the push-out option of pushing a web page to students if needed. Upper grades benefit of monitoring students if you are in small group and cannot go over to a student's Chromebook to monitor what they are doing.

Census 2020
Several departments have been working closely with local officials to ensure that our community gets and accurate count in the upcoming census. You can access a presentation attached to this email, and support in the following ways:
- We would like ALL Staff to participate in the positive messaging around the Census and encourage the completion of the survey. (An accurate count = proper allocation of funds/support/representation)
- Schools are encouraged to establish a Census completing station (Questionnaire Action Kiosk) for community members. The Census Survey starts the second week of March.
- We are also encouraging All Teachers participate in a Nationwide Census Lesson Rollout Campaign during the first week of March by using one of their own census lessons or the ready-made (content and grade level aligned) lesson(s) created by Census.gov to help inform Students/Parents and Community Members.
