Scott Lang Leadership Workshop

Scott Lang is a renown speaker and we have attended his workshops in the past. This year, all students applying for Leadership Council must attend the workshop, though we encourage any of our interested band students to join us. The cost is $15 and your student is signed up when we receive his/her money. We will take a bus to Southmoore HS after school and we will go out to eat dinner afterwards. This is a great experience for all students! Parents are more than welcome to come with us at no charge. It is proven that kids get more out of any experience if they are involved behind the scenes. Encourage your student to be involved with the foundation of their band program and help shape the future of our Blanchard Bands!

Summer Band Information - Important!

It's already time to look forward to next year! Spring training and summer band are required (dates on the calendar above) if students want a guaranteed spot in the field show. Each student absence will be dealt with on an individual basis. The sooner we know of any absences, the better we can prepare and try and juggle them, so please check your calendar and let us know ASAP of any issues. From here on out, avoid scheduling anything for your student on spring and summer band dates.

If a student has to miss 4 or more days of summer band for any reason, he/she will automatically be made an alternate.

The schedule will be the same as last year, with times running from 2:00pm-10:00pm with a dinner break from 5:30-6:30pm.

TRIP NOTICE! Airfare was $20 higher than we estimated so every person traveling with the band to NYC will pay $20 more for their final payment. If you already paid off your trip, send $20 more by the final trip payment. Students can still fundraise this amount if they choose. Thank you!

FiINAL Trip Payment Due April 4th

All trips, student and chaperone, need to be paid off by April 4th. For any extenuating circumstances, contact Ms. Kauffman immediately.

Mandatory Travel Meeting - Monday, May 2nd

This meeting is REQUIRED for all travelers to NYC to go over chaperone duties, expectations, travel information, necessary identification, and more. If you cannot make the 7:00pm meeting, you'll need to schedule a meeting with Ms. Kauffman within a week of May 2nd. If you have any questions, email

NYC Walking - update!

This is for all parents and students: NYC is going to be a TON of walking. Norman HS went to NYC and did a similar itinerary to us and averaged 8-10 miles a day. Make sure you have good, already broken in, comfortable shoes! We need to make sure that our students and chaperones are getting into walking shape, especially now that the weather is nicer. What's most important is that you get up and start moving now so that your trip is filled with pleasant memories, not painful ones!

Spring Softball & Baseball Concessions

Softball and baseball concessions are open for all now, so if you've already signed up you are welcome to sign up for any other open spots. Please make sure you mark your calendar so you know when you signed up!

Calling All Band Banquet Photos!

It's time to start thinking about our banquet! Please make sure to email Ms. Shepherd any and all photos for the banquet video so she can start working on it now. We'd love photos from this year, but especially some old photos of our seniors when they were young kiddos in band. If you'd like, feel free to bring in a flash drive. Thanks!

Maydaze Garage Sale

Start tucking away your donations for the Band's annual Garage Sale! Set aside any items you don't want or need anymore so they're waiting for us! It is very helpful if you can price your items or sort them into bags that have prices marked on them. We will be announcing drop off info soon so you won't have to store everything at home. Thank you for your support!

Background checks for volunteers

Please remember that if you didn't fill out your form with Brenda at uniform checkout and get her a copy of your driver's license, you'll need to get that done prior to volunteering. The cost of the background check is $12.50 and is required if you want to work directly with our students. For more information, contact Brenda at

HS Band Students of the Month!

Our Blanchard HS Band Students of the month for April are Clayton "Benji" Kucik and Ana Evans!

  • Benji is a freshman flute player who is also a fantastic piccolo player! He is one of the featured soloists on our state contest music. He has made numerous honor bands, takes private lessons, and also participates in solo and ensemble. Benji is very interested in learning other instruments, so he has also taught himself the violin, clarinet and is now working on the horn during honor band class. He has an amazing natural talent for music and is always pushing to learn more. He is currently second chair in the HS band and is a wonderful member of our band family. Thank you for always pushing to be better, Benji!
  • Ana is a freshman clarinet player who has stepped up in a major way this year. She was already a leader in the middle school, and as she moved up to high school she didn't back off! Ana is always working to know her music better and even more importantly, to offer her help to others in her section. She has come in early and stayed after school numerous times to work with her section and as a result, the whole clarinet section has improved immensely! She is the highest seated freshman clarinet and the way she's going, the top better watch out! Keep being an outstanding example to your section and our band, Ana!

How to get credit for your monthly newsletter grade! Due by Tuesday, April 26th!

The purpose of the monthly newsletter is to make sure that students and parents are all on the same page and know about all band activities. To get credit, a parent needs to send an email to the Blanchard Band directors that has the following info: student name, grade, parent name, and that the newsletter has been read. This earns you 100%! If you don't have the ability to email, please have your student get a hard copy from a director and it can be signed and returned for the same grade.

Remember, newsletters are only accepted during the month of the newsletter. Once the month has passed, that newsletter can no longer be submitted.
