Week of December 5, 2022

From Dean Elsasser
We had a lot of fun with the World Cup this week celebrating the USA and Mexico games. We made sure to tune in during lunch and cheer loud enough for the teams to hear us in Qatar!
Thank you to HOSA for their excellent Breakfast with Santa event. I know a lot of preparation by our students and their sponsors went into this event. The proceeds from this event go to help
Good luck to the students re-taking STAAR this week. Thank you to Ms. Thomas for her work in preparing for testing this week. If students are testing this week please make sure they are on time with a charged Chromebook!
We are looking forward to Discovery Night on December 6th from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. We invite all 8th graders across the district and their families to come to tour Vanguard and get an idea of what their 4 years at Vanguard can offer.
We welcomed 8th graders from Terry and McDonald this week. 8th graders have until December 16th to fill out the interest form in Skyward to express interest in coming to Vanguard next year.
We are excited about our 2nd annual Winter Formal happening Saturday, December 10th. The theme this year is Enchanted Winter Wonderland. Student council and the student council sponsors have done an amazing job of preparing for this event. Please make sure you've read the dress code and guidelines for the dance. Tickets will continue to be sold this week. We will not be selling tickets at the door. If a student is bringing a date from another MISD campus, they must have their permission slip from the principal of the MISD school turned in to Mrs. David by Wednesday, December 7th. We are looking forward to this event.
Make sure you read about the field trips we sent students this week. Our NHS students went on a service field trip and helped package meals for those in need. Ms. Reed's students were able to visit the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. At Vanguard it is very important for us to give students opportunities to see what they're learning on campus applied in the real world.
The week of December 12th we are going to celebrate every day with themed dress as we countdown to winter break. There is more information about our plans for that week in this newsletter.
Finals are also happening the week of the 12th. We will be giving information about exemptions from finals next week. Even if students are exempt, they are expected to be in attendance on campus during finals. We do have early release on the 15th and 16th. At Vanguard our early release time is 1:35 pm.
Let's make these next two weeks before break count! Have a great week, Vanguards!
