A note from Dr. Stocks
At the end of next week (or even sooner), let your teacher know how things are going. They are learning what a good balance is for work at home because it is very different from being at school. We are going to figure this out together.
Also, remember that our teachers are amazing and they will all be delivering instruction in different ways. They are all helping their kids work towards the same standards, but just might get there through varied experiences and instruction delivery.
I hope you enjoy some unplugged time with your children and don't forget that they have awesome learning experiences from specials, too.
Have a great weekend!
Dr. Stocks
You can turn in library books on any pick up/drop off day before the end of the school year. You can also turn in any classroom books, papers, or materials on any pick up/drop off day.
Parents, if you run into difficulty and have needs regarding internet access, device availability, or transportation to pick up essential items at the school, please contact Dr. Stocks.
a note from mrs. williams about chromebooks
Here are some considerations BEFORE bringing the device to the school to be left for a repair.
We are working with the district to follow all of the required precautions during this time. This will cause the chromebook repair process to take longer than usual. Technicians will pick up after there has been a period of quarantining. It may take 5-7 days for devices to be returned to the building.
Chromebooks will only be repaired if they are not working. The technology department will only process critical repairs during this time.
If there is a need for a repair, please email Mrs. Williams (shwilliams@hoover.k12.al.us). Please let her know the student’s name and the reason a repair is needed. For now, if the chromebook is working, do not turn it in for a repair.
When a repair is completed and the device is returned to the building, Mrs. Williams will communicate with you.
COVID-19 Update
Grace Klein Community is a resource for food. We know that some parents are concerned about providing food for their children. We have created a form for these parents to sign up to receive food while the schools are out. Click here for the form.

Why taking breaks are important
As school began again last Monday, it was probably great to get back to a somewhat normal school routine, but it may have also been a bit stressful. Taking breaks is an essential part of taking care of your mental and physical health. Even a five-minute break can decrease stress, restore motivation, increase productivity and creativity and can improve learning. Here are just a few ways to add a mental health break during or after your school day.
Begin a gratitude jar - every day write down one thing you are grateful for to fill the jar.
Be present and encourage your child to share their thoughts and talk through feelings.
Maintain your physical well being and take a break to cook a meal, exercise, and play.
Spend 2 - 3 minutes practicing deep breathing.
Encourage your child to maintain contact with their friends on an appropriate virtual platform.
Find an activity that encourages creativity: art, music, journaling, etc.
STRETCH
Play “Sound Search” - spend some time outside sitting still and identifying as many different sounds as possible.
Go “old school”, play cards, board games, dominoes or put together a puzzle.
