Principal's Message

This past week our performing arts department presented Side by Side. The show was amazing and showcased the vast talent of the students. After a long year and many changes along the way the students and staff persevered to make the show a success!


In this week's newsletter, we highlight our People's Choice Awards and Community Service Events. We also have have important information about both our summer academic camps and sports camps at Gateway.


Please note, we are still required to wear masks at school and follow state and county health guidelines.

COVID-19 Procedures

  1. Masks must be worn at all times when on campus. Masks should cover the mouth and nose.
  2. If you are traveling, you must quarantine upon return for 14 days, unless vaccinated.
  3. Any individual with COVID-19 symptoms should stay home and contact their healthcare provider. These symptoms are listed on the daily health screening you complete.
  4. If someone in your household is sick or being tested for COVID-19 due to illness, students should stay home until the test result is received.
  5. Siblings of a student who has symptoms and meets criteria should be excluded from school until the symptomatic individual receives a negative test result.

Senior Montage Commercial

Project Graduation Survivor Shirts

We are selling Survivor t-shirts as a fundraiser for Project Graduation. They will be quality white shirts with the logo attached. They will be $20 each. Sizes range from XS to 4XL. Checks can be made out to Gateway Regional High School or you can Venmo Ann Hayes: @Ann-Hayes-27 Please contact Ann Hayes or Cindy Norton to place an order. The cutoff for orders will be May 21st.

Scholarship Applications

Attention Seniors: scholarship applications are being posted on the Gateway Senior Guidance Google Classroom (Class of 2021 - Senior Guidance) frequently. Many of these awards are local and some are only for Gateway Seniors, so please make sure you are checking often! Deadlines will not be extended. Please reach out to Mrs. Pagano in guidance with any questions!

***Graduation Date***

Senior Awards and Baccalaureate will be held on Thursday, June 17th. Graduation will be on Friday, June 18th.

**Please note that we are still under the Governor's Executive Order for outdoor gatherings.**

Junior/Senior Prom Date and Location

Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 7-11pm

New Location: The Orchard Garden at Masso's

The Prom will only be open to Gateway students. No students from other schools may attend.


COVID restrictions including wearing masks will apply.

GATOR ACE CAMP

In ACE Camp, Gators will ACCELERATE their learning, COLLABORATE with peers, and ELABORATE on topics of interest. For 5 weeks, Gators will have the opportunity to dive into high-interest, high-engagement topics in small groups led by Gateway teachers.

Aviation Club

Aviation Program had a guest speaker at the last in-person session. Tom Schruff spoke to the students about the use of drones in farming blueberries. After a great discussion, students had the chance to fly his drone and take video for our video project.

Our next in-person meeting is Tuesday, May 25th, 3-4:30. A schedule of meetings was sent to all Aviation students, please see your email for the dates, places, times and activities. If you plan to attend the in-person meetings, please let Mrs. Broadbelt know.

Gifted and Talented

Gateway Regional is accepting screening nominations for placement during the next school year. Students eligible for screening at this time are current 6th graders who will be attending Gateway Regional in the next school year, or current 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th graders attending Gateway Regional, but who are NOT currently identified as gifted and talented.


The state of New Jersey defines a gifted and talented student as “those students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability, in one or more content areas, when compared to their chronological peers in the district and who require modification of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities.”


The Identification Process:

1. Nomination for Screening (Spring Semester of Current Year)

2. Screening to determine if student meets eligibility requirements (Spring Semester of Current Year)

3. Placement, if eligibility requirements are met (Fall Semester of Next Year)

Annual School Plan Survey

The purpose of this survey is to collect student, parent, and community member feedback on Gateway Regional's progress and areas for growth. This information will be used to develop the 2021-2022 Annual School Plan for submission to the New Jersey Department of Education. Your participation in this process is valued and we thank you for your time. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Amy Mount, Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Health Screenings

The Department of Education requires the school nurse to complete screening on every student every year. This is presently being conducted on students who are in Cohort D. All students who are virtual have the opportunity to be screened by the school nurse. Mrs. Alter will be available for screenings on Wednesday, May 12th and Thursday, May 13th from 1pm- 2:30pm. If you would like your child screened please contact Mrs. Alter at dalter@gatewayhs.com or 856-848-8200 ext 246. The screenings consist of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and scoliosis.

Vaccine for Students 12 and Older

As you may be aware the FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine for children over the age of 12. Gateway will be hosting a vaccine clinic through Adler’s Pharmacy on Tuesday, May 25th (2nd dose June 15th) during school hours. We are opening spots for our elementary students who are eligible. The clinic will be during the school day. Any parent who attends with their child will also be able to receive the vaccine. If you or child would like to be vaccinated please complete the attached forms and turn them into your school office by Friday, May 21st. If you have any questions, please contact Gateway’s school nurse Mrs. Alter at dalter@gatewayhs.com

Required Consent and Information Forms

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Students who are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine when exposed, unless having symptoms

  • School Districts are not mandating that students need to be vaccinated to attend in-person school.

  • All paperwork must be turned into the main office by Friday, May 21st at 3:00pm

Congratulations to Mr. Zachary Kennedy for being appointed to the Pre-AP National Faculty. This is an impressive achievement, and we are thrilled to have Zachary join this outstanding group of educators!

Business Presentation

It was so good to see Les Vail again and to meet Frank Plum of Workplace HCM Inc.

Les and Frank had an engaging conversation about what it means to build and run a successful business with our future Gator businessmen, Jon Gambone, Isaac Freind and Mason Broomall.

Key takeaways about successful businesses:

•Build relationships because they are the key to all success

•Become a lifelong learner to remain current in your trade

•Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you

•Take smart chances based upon research

•When you fail (and you will) learn and turn and bounce back!

Environmental Intern-Sara Sewell

Senior marine biology environmental intern, Sara Sewell was everywhere this week collecting experiences to further her future career.


Sara attended the Wenonah Farmer's Market with Americorp Watershed Ambassador, Dylan O'Brien to promote healthy waterways. She also met with the captain and crew of Cape May Dolphin and Whale Watching boat to set up her internship for the summer!

Ronald McDonald House

Thank you to the community members who already supported the senior project for Morgan Wright and Emily Blemings for the Ronald McDonald House of South Jersey. If you would like to contribute, please do so this coming week. Thank you!
