Mrs. Burns' Kindergarten

Weekly Wrap-Up

Visits from Ms. Pszenny and Father Viet

Using some "friendly" monsters, Ms. Pszenny, the school guidance counselor, discussed all of the ways we can listen excluding our ears. She challenged the students to teach and test eachother on how we listen with our brains, eyes, mouth, feet, hands and heart. She explained how these are all good habits for both school and home.

Father Viet visited the classroom on Thursday morning to speak with the Kindergarteners about Pope Francis' visit to the United States. He taught us about the power of the Rosary and we prayed together a Hail Mary for the Pope's safety.

Apples Galore & Johnny Appleseed

Johnny Appleseed Day was a huge success!! Thank you for working so hard on their adorable outfits! We had so many compliments of how cute they all looked. Celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday (he would have been 241 years old today) was a fun way to wrap up our Apple Unit.

Friday morning, the children rotated through 6 apple centers... 1. Tissue Paper Apple Trees 2. Investigating and labeling the parts of an apple 3. Measuring apples and testing whether they sink of float 4. Tasting red/green/yellow apples and graphing our favorites 5. Creating a Johnny Appleseed emergent reader and 6. Weighing apples. We also made home-made applesauce in the crockpot. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made it a success. It was a great morning learning a little more about apples and the importance of the historical figure Johnny Appleseed.
