Do you ever read the comments on your IDEA evaluations and wonder if you and the students were even in the same class? Have you ever been frustrated or disappointed in the feedback the IDEA survey provides? You can counteract some of this disconnect by taking the time to do a temperature survey with your students now. Even the best courses can be tweaked. You can use a Zoom poll to ask students to rate their satisfaction with a particular aspect of the class for which you want feedback. You can use the survey function in Canvas to ask open-ended questions like, "what's working well," "what needs some attention," and "what would you like me to know?" You could also dedicate a few minutes of class to have a discussion about stress levels, the amount of homework, what students are excited about in the class, and so on. You could ask a colleague or a member of the CLT team to come in and collect feedback from the students on your behalf. There's no single way to get feedback from your students, but they will appreciate being asked and listened to, and it will help facilitate what you do best: excellent teaching.

On February 17, the Center for Service and Sustainability, the Leahy Center, and the SMART Space launched the pilot of three micro-endorsements in Sustainability, Systems Administrator, and Master Tutor as part of a collaboration with the Centers of Experience. This Spring, 22 SMART Space employees, 8 Leahy Center employees, and 12 Eco-Reps will Learn, Do, and Show their skills to earn their micro-endorsement.

Sustainability. Eco-Reps will earn the Sustainability Micro-Credential by attending weekly meetings, completing assigned outreach tasks, and developing and delivering a presentation on the connection between sustainability and their major.

Systems Administrator. Leahy Center workforce members engaged in system administration roles will earn the micro-endorsement upon completion of on-the-job training, demonstration of specific technical competencies, and the creation of documentation and/or training materials that contribute to the mission of the Center.

Master Tutor. All SMART Space tutors are currently required to meet an accreditation process through the College Reading and Learning Association. As a CRLA tutor training facility, the SMART Space requires 10 hours of teacher training and 50-hours of practicum each academic year. In addition, to the CRLA Master Tutor Certification, our tutors will now also be eligible to earn a MASTER TUTOR Micro-endorsement. This is an exciting new opportunity for our students to develop practical work experience at Champlain.
