ANNUAL NOTICE REGARDING MENINGITIS
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
Indiana State Law IC 20-30-5-18 requires that school systems provide important information to parents and guardians of all students about meningitis and the vaccines available to prevent one type of this serious illness.
Meningitis is an infection of the fluid surrounding a person’s spinal cord and brain. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection. This bacterial infection can result in brain damage, hearing loss, learning disability, or death. Symptoms commonly include a high fever, headache, and stiff neck in individuals over the age of two. These symptoms can develop over several hours or may take one or two days. Other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, discomfort looking into bright lights, confusion, and sleepiness. In newborns and small infants, symptoms may only include inactivity, irritability, vomiting, or poor feeding. As the disease progresses, any age individual may have seizures.
Bacterial meningitis is spread through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions.
Some common ways the bacteria can spread are:
· Living in the same household or dormitory room
· Kissing on the lips
· Sharing drinks from the same container (glasses, cups, water bottles)
· Sharing eating utensils (forks and spoons)
· Sharing a toothbrush, cigarettes, or lipstick
Fortunately, it is not as contagious as colds or the flu. It is critical that treatment with appropriate antibiotics be started very early in the course of the disease. A vaccine to prevent meningitis is available at the Hendricks County Health Department, or you can contact your family physician’s office.
The state of Indiana requires all students in grades 6-12 to have the appropriate number of meningococcal conjugate vaccine doses. One dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine is required for all students in 6th -11th grade. A second booster dose is required for students entering 12th grade. These vaccines are a legal requirement for school entry (Indiana Administrative Code 410 IAC 1-1-1) for the 2018-2019 school year.
More information about meningococcal disease can be found at:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/mening/default.htm or
IN State Department of Health website: http://www.in.gov/isdh/25455.htm

Has Your Address Changed?
Have you moved recently? If your child rides the bus, we want to make sure your child is picked up on schedule and dropped off safely to your home. If you have changed addresses since you did the online registration in PowerSchool, we will need to have you fill out a transportation form so we can pass the information to the transportation department so your child's bus route can be updated.
You can find this form on our website. From the main page, click MENU, and then DOCUMENTS. Please return this form to the main office as soon as you can, so the appropriate changes can be made. Call us if you have any questions!
Update Information in Parent Portal
Parents are now able to do Year Round Updates in PowerSchool with the new Online Registration, now that “Returning Registration” has closed.
The type of updates the parents can do are:
- Emergency Contact changes
- Phone changes
- Email addresses
The types of updates Parents cannot do:
- Student address changes
- Parent names changes
(Contact the office for these types of changes)
Note: Parent changes must be done from a web browser, and not the PowerSchool app,
Simply sign into your parent power school account, and click on the “Year Round Update” link (see below) to update data in real time.

Cafeteria Information:
Please send lunch money in a marked envelope with your child to school when needed. This can be in the form of cash or check made out to "Brentwood Cafeteria". You may also fund your child's lunch account using eFunds or MyLunchMoney.com. Look for student sign up information on these online options to come home with your child the first week of school.
Become a Brentwood Volunteer
1. Every volunteer, field trip chaperone, or classroom party volunteer must have a background check completed through PCSC. Many of your completed these forms when you enrolled your children online this year as the forms were included. If you still need to fill one out for this year please contact the office well in advance of your first visit to do this.
2. Every volunteer must also complete a PCSC Confidentiality Volunteer Agreement in the office upon their first time volunteering each year.
3. Every visitor to our building during school hours must check-in at the reception desk and be entered into our Safe Visitor system. The very fist time you visit you must have your Driver's License or State Issued ID Card which will be scanned into the computer. Most likely you will NOT need it again upon subsequent visits because the system stores your information. (However, should a glich appear in the system and it is required of you it would be more convenient on you if you had your ID with you.) Every visitor is photographed at the same time they are checked in upon their first visit also.
Thank you for your flexibility as we continue to learn this software during our second year of its use. We know your first priority, as ours in the office, is the safety of all of our children.
(Lunch Room visitors will sit at a specially designated table with only their child and therefore will only be checked into our Safe Visitor system (#3) above.) They are not required to complete steps 1-2 above unless they want to volunteer in a classroom or small group setting, chaperone a field trip, or help out at PTO run classroom parties or events.)
