Syria Uses Chemical Weapons
Hunter Bailey
The civil war in Syria started 3 years ago. I would like to report that Syria has committed a human rights violation. Allegedly, they have used chemical weapons in multiple urban areas with innocent civilians being injured. More innocent people have been injured or even killed by the chemical weapon attacks than actual soldiers. Both the US and Russia has agreed that the chemical weapons are a threat. Chemical weapons should not be used on anyone let alone innocent civilians.
One account of chemical weapons being used on the innocent occurred on March 19, 2013, a little more than 2 years after the conflict started in Syria. The attack happened in Khan al-Assal, Aleppo, Syria and about 25 people died, only 16 of witch were soldiers, and about 100 non fatal injuries occurred. This was only one of many chemical weapon attacks that have occurred in Syria.
On August 21, 2013, about 3000 twitching victims were in hospitals in the suburbs of Damascus due to chemical weapons being used in the area. Others were found with towels on faces to try and protect themselves from the chemicals. The US Secretary of State, John Kerry, says the evidence makes it undeniable that chemical weapons were used against civilians.
The most recent chemical weapon attack happened on April 11, 2014. This chemical weapon attack was located in Kafr Zita. About 200 people were wounded in this attack. The government in Syria says the rebels, Al-Nursa Front, used the chemical weapons. Others say the government used the chemical weapons.
Furthermore, I believe that the use of chemical weapons on people let alone innocent civilians is a very terrible human rights violation. Thousands have suffered from these chemical weapon attacks and it really needs to stop.
