A Video Message from Mr. Munn and Mrs. Laba
Some notes....and THANK YOU!
We would like to thank all of the students, families, and staff for making the transition to remote learning quick and efficient. With your flexibility and enthusiasm we were able to have students continue to learn from home the best we can under the circumstances. Not a day goes by that we don't miss the chatter of students in the hallways, the energy of their stories, the constant hugs and family involvement. Petrova is most certainly a true family. It is during times like this that we get to see how truly fortunate we are to learn in such a wonderfully supportive school. We would like to thank you all for your support and communication. Please keep reaching out if you need anything.
The direct line for the district is 518-897-1404 from 8 am. until noon. When you call, we want to make sure you are able to speak with a person and not have to leave a message. A member of our secretarial staff will be ready to help you get the answer you are looking for.
If your family is in need of a Chromebook, please also call the number above for this request.
We are also happy to supply breakfast and lunch at no cost for ANY family that would like to take advantage of this opportunity. Also, if your school-age children are participating, let us know if you have younger children at home. We will include meals for them as well. Please call Ruth Pino at 518-897-1462 to register.
Stay healthy, stay in communication, and let us know if we can do anything for your family. We miss you all!
Mr. Munn and Mrs. Laba
Spring Vacation-Tri-Lakes Trifecta
Tri-Lakes Trifecta
Governor Cuomo's executive order extending school closure for an additional two weeks includes language that requires school districts to continue to provide remote instruction and meals to students as well as childcare for essential workers every weekday through April 14 in order to receive a waiver from the 180-day instructional requirement – even if they had been scheduled to be on spring break during that time.
The District is following the Governor’s mandate by launching a new, student-interest centered learning experience for students as well as a new meal distribution system for the two-week period that was originally set aside as spring break (April 6 – April 17).
Students are challenged to complete the Tri-Lakes Trifecta. That is, “scale the peaks” of 18 academic and physical activities/tasks. Students will receive a Mountain Choice Sheet and Tri-Lakes Trifecta Scratch-off card in the mail early next week (being mailed to your home on Friday).
Each mountain heads a column of activities. Students choose one activity in each column to complete. Once the activity is complete, the student scratches off that mountain top from the scratch-off card. Teachers will be available during daily office hours (8 am to 10 am) to provide instruction and answer any questions. Students who conquer the Tri-Lakes Trifecta by completing one activity from each column become eligible to win prizes (gift certificates purchased at local stores). Please look for more detailed information in the packet of materials when it arrives.
A Walking Challenge--Petrova Striders
StuCo & Smile Squad are introducing our very first “virtual” After School Program - Petrova Striders. “We have pride in our stride!”
Here’s the deal - we want as many members of our Petrova Family to get up...get out...and Get Moving! It’s simple - just put your name in the comments section below or send us an email (studentcouncil@slcs.org) to let us know you’re joining. We’d love for you to share your pictures, too!
The goal is to commit to walking everyday with the positive team attitude that we are all in this TOGETHER.
There are no formal tracking expectations, however we encourage you to keep a little journal. You could include details like: Date, time walked, and maybe even step count/distance if you have a device that tracks those stats.
So what do you say Petrova? Who’s in?
Important reminders: Always be safe. Walk with an adult. Follow the rules of the road. Maintain appropriate social distance.
